My Bose Home Theater Died !
My Bose home theater system died today! I was listening to a CD and it just quit!
It was still reading the CD but no sound was comming from the speakers.
I spent about an hour or so on the phone with Bose technical support trying to diagnose the problem but no luck on it.
My warentee is expired as my unit is well over 3 years old and the warentee is only 2 years. So I have to send it in and for $125 they will either refurbash it or replace it and give me another 2 year warentee on my unit.
Personally I think I blew out the amp in it as I tend to really turn the stereo up so I can hear it while I'm outside working (like I was today when it died).
But in all reality $125 to get a new unit is not to bad of a deal. This is the price no matter if it is my fault or if it was just worn out.

I have owned a few high end stereo's and bose matches or surpasses them all the way around!
My system cost me $1000 and it has been a great system! This outage when all is said and done I'm sure is my fault. I say this because I push it hard! If I am outside for most any reason I have the stereo on and turned up to near max so I can hear it outside.
The way it went out I am 100% sure it is not in the speakers and is probly in the amp probly with it just getting over loaded.
And with the customer service I got yesterday I am very impressed with them on that end as well.
Thier tech spent about an hour with me on the phone trying different reset modes and such to see if we could get it resolved that way. And $125 to totally refubash or replace the enitire unit no matter what is wrong is a pretty fair deal in my book considering the warentee is up on it.

It is a little higher end Bose and has a HD upgrade to go with my HDTV.
Right now I use a seperate DVD player that has the 1080i upgrade and feed the sound into the Bose 3-2-1 from it.
If I do upgrade my current system will be moved into my bedroom.0 -

you have some serious hearing issues, Bose reproduces frequencies through digital manipulation, and do a very fine job doing it, if you knew anything about THD, SPL, RMS ratings you would know jenson doesn't even come close, Bose are pricey compared to cheap trash but are not considered high end, try McIntosh you want to look at expensive high end, and worth every penny

Having worked with Bose for years, I have to comment. Bose SUCKS! The product is not well made, the sound quality is not great, and the price is outrageous for what you are buying. Price of a Bose is all in the marketing.
Think about this: in order to reproduce sound, you have to cause vibrations in the air. Low frequency sound relys on very slow vibrations. To effectively transmit these vibrations to the human ear, you need to move a lot of air, and this cant be done with a small driver(speaker). Since Bose believes the world revolves around a 3 inch driver, they have to use a lot of signal processing (aka equalization) to get the sound they do from that small driver. You are no longer listening to a faithful reproduction of the original signal, but to what someone tells you is a faithful reproduction of that sound. Don't believe me? Hook a set of Bose speakers to a non Bose system. Any of the 301, 501, 801 series would do nicely, altho their sub/sat systems are the same as well. Theres a reason for that old saying, "Got no highs, got no lows, gotta be Bose".
I gave up dealing with them because of their "Bose is the only product on the planet" philosophy. They came out with a professional stage system a while back, touting it as the greatest thing in the world. If it's so great, when is the last time you saw the Stones/Garth Brooks/U2/Metallica/etc tour using Bose?
Rest my case.

BOSE isn't horrible, they are right in the middle of the mid-range electronics offerings. Harmon Kardon and Onkyo being at the top and Pioneer and (none ES) Sony being at the bottom. I wouldn't buy anything but their speakers, and I wouldn't buy them again either. I have 2 sets. They are ok but my Polks are much better.
Note I am talking about mid-range electronics (what most of us can afford). Companies like Gerard, Realistic are at the bottom end and MacIntosh, SoundCraftsman at the top.0 -
Just sold a nice pair of 901's on the original stands with an Bose equilizer. Bose speakers were still in very good condition and 27 years old and still played like the day they were built. Buyer was very satisfied. 0 -
