ruger 10-22
I bought a M1 carbine "kit" for a Ruger 10-22 some time back , I kept watch for a used 10-22 to come my way reasonable priced , just never happened too dang popular and ever one I did see for sale was more than a new one cost . a few days ago The wife and I were out shopping stopped by a Rural King store they had 10-22 wood stock blue version 199.00 so I just bit the bullet and got one for the conversion Kit ,
The sales person told me must be a good deal they had sold 3 in the last two days .
any way now I can put my M1 carbine kit together [;)]
my son stopped by wally world at random picked up a box of 225 22's ( first box I have seen in that Quantity . there just Remington "new and improved Golden HP " 11.99 tax and all said that was the only box of 22:s they had

Perhaps y'all can help me out. I am on the look out for a beat to heck Ruger 10-22. I am going to be building a completely custom 10-22 and just need a receiver\trigger group. If anyone runs across one that fits this criteria please let me know.

If you don't mind the bolt, get a Remington 504T. They are a excellent shooter from the bench. I had one and sold it, now I wish I had it back. 0 -
Dunham's sports has the birch stock blue 10/22 on sale this week for 159 bucks. start with that, then build it up as you go. get heavy barrel, stock, target trigger, and scope. Lots of fun to do. 0 -
Here's mine that I built a while back. 10/22's are a lot of fun to customize, and expensive too. But hey, when I can, I spend my money on my passion. (Guns!!)
Nothing super special, but special to me. Silver receiver, silver rings, silver 3x9x40 tasco world class scope, silver millet scope base, silver (2.5 lb pull) trigger assembly, stainless fluted 20" Green Mountain .920 bull barrel (crowned & recessed), hogue overmolded rubber stock, free floated barrel, glassed aluminum bedding, & black nylon adjustable sling. I might add that this sucker is SUPER ACCURATE as long as I do my part.
10/22's are a money pit honestly, but they are almost addicting. Good luck to you brother and have fun!

I bought a 10-22 Years ago gave $52.00 fer it new, hated it sold it bought a Remington nylon 66, love it and I still have it, shoot's great with out buying a bunch of junk for it. 0 -
...Try one of the OLD 10/22's if you just have to have a 10/22...the old one's that came with walnut stocks instead of the hardwood stocks. They have a lot better trigger and are pretty accurate. Ruger should be ashamed of selling the 10/22's they sell now.
...You ONLY have to buy a new 10/22, drop $4-500 bucks on it, and you have an accurate shooter! No, I dont care for the new ones at all...crappy hardwood stock, not accurate, and a trigger from hell...and Im a Ruger fan! Maybe that's why the 10/22 dissappoints me so much, they bite.
If you dont mind the bolt...go to the auction side and look for a really nice Mossberg 142-B (tube mag holds like 20-22 rounds!) or Rem 519 (single shot)...a LOT less money, walnut stocks, and will shoot as good or better than a 10/22 WITH a bull and trigger job, gaurantee it.
I have one of each, and they are superbly accurate. Both are getting harder to find, but about $130-175 should pick up a 519, that is is good shape and should re-finish like new. About $150-250 or less should get an all original 142 B...and you wont be dissappointed...and if you ever go to sell it, you will probably get your $$$ plus, you wont with the 10/22 that's "dressed" up...[;)]0 -
At 100 yards with slight wind any 22 will deviate. My 10/22 with Volquartsen heavy sleeved barrel will group all 10 rounds within 1/2" from 75 yards off a sand bag (no wind). I have shot numerous factory 10/22's with std heavy and fluted barrels and found all to be extremely accurate.
If he was refering to Stainless, SS will not dissipate heat near as fast as carbon steel, however; firing once every 30 seconds will not effect either one very much.0 -
I've done a personal best 5 shot 8 inch groupings at 200 yards with Wolf competition ammo with my 10/22. I know it's not breaking any records. I've also done just under 1 inch at 100 yards for 5 shots.
Mines really picky with ammo. I'm guess any would be. It does best with Winchester and Wolf. Hates Eley, CCI and Ferderal.0
