Cops get STA missile launcher turned in
Florida Cops Get Missile Launcher in 'Kicks for Guns' Exchange
Friday , August 17, 2007
ORLANDO, Fla. -
Police were hoping for a good turnout at their "Kicks for Guns" sneaker exchange Friday, but they weren't expecting to get a surface-to-air missile launcher.
An Ocoee man showed up and exchanged the 4-foot-long launcher for size-3 Reebok sneakers for his daughter, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Taking advantage of the exchange's no-questions-asked policy, the man was not identified. He told the Orlando Sentinel that he found the weapon in a shed he tore down last week.
"I didn't know what to do with it, so I brought it here," he told the newspaper. "I took it to three dumps to try to get rid of it and they told me to get lost."
Besides the missile launcher police collected more than 250 guns. They were all exchanged for sneakers or $50 gift certificates.

Where did it come from? One might read what the DEA says about arms being smuggled in with the drugs. 0 -
Single use launchers are not a restricted item (IE LAW rocket tubes). Basicly the got got 3 pair of tennies for a PVC pipe wall hanger. 0 -
dose it look like a missile launcher to you??

So was there a missile in the tube, or was it just some collectable of a single use disposable launcher? If there was no missile in it, I'd rate it on par with empty artillery shells/casings and such 0 -
Looks like some yokel got cheated out of a pair of sneakers. 0 -

Actually, it's a TOW missile tube. I saw more than one of those at ranges when I was assigned to an Infantry Battalion. From the way that deputy is holding it with one hand, I can pretty well guarantee it is empty, too.0 -
Probably an empty Stinger or old Redeye missle launcher.
One time use, fire and forget. Shoot it off and throw it away, like a 22 rimfire, not reloadable.
Someone got a new set of sneaks for a piece of trash.0
