Like ZipperZap said it all depends on what you plan on hauling up.There is anything out here including plenty of Sharks so its what you want to pull in that dictates what you should bring. 0 -

If you're like me and will be fishing from shore and aren't really targeting anything in particular, but just want to catch fish, go with shrimp for bait. Live is best, but dead is fine too (shell the dead ones like you were going to eat them). Fish them 18-24" under a "popping cork" (big styrofoam bobber). Be sure to use a steel leader, and 12-17 lb test should be plenty on a medium spinner or baitcast rod.
Another bait that people swear by is the Berkely "Gulp" Shrimp. They're pretty pricy at $5.99 for a 4-6 ct, but supposedly catch more fish than the real thing. They're not like regular plastic lures, though. Once you take them out of the pack you can't re-use them since they degrade.
You could also try bull minnows on the bottom for flounder
