We were out shooting in the late 80s and a friend shot an old engine block and the bullet ricocheted and hit him in the stomach. It did not cause any major problems but it scared the crap out of me. He was the only one drinking. I remember him saying i got a flesh wound. The Air Force was pissed though. [:D] 0 -

That sum bitch spent all his luck that day!
As for me I'm gonna keep firing the 50 cal and the 416 and play the lotto too, on a weekly basis.[:D]0 -
I've had a .357 Sig go through a fence post, into a tree, and come back to hit the hand that fired it...A true 180 ricochet...scaird (sp?)the hell out of me. 0 -
thats not a ricochet ECC. 0 -
When I was 16 I shot a .22 at a piece of light gauge steel at 30 feet, whizzed by my right ear. 0 -

What in the world would you call it? The only thing I can think is that it either ricocheted off another bullet lodged in the tree or somehow traveled around the ring inside the tree and back out the hole that it entered...0 -
Do Not Shoot Rubber Tire Piles.

The definition of ricochet also includes (180 deg.) rebound.
You can't appreciate this truth until you fire 30 & 50 BMG tracers in a gravel pit. Wooden barriers may be better.
You can see the stuff goes everywhere. That's why I'd caution anyone anxious to fire tracers or APIs to be very careful of inadvertantly starting fires.
I've had a 30 carbine jacket rebound and stick in my throat.0 -
ok if it did come back at you it didnt go through the tree.
trees as you know are soft, even the hard ones.
it hit something in its path.
maybe, you tell me, did you hit a tree?
and to make the round come back it would have to hit something pretty supstantial. to make it come back.
my next thought were you point blank?
Im not discrediting you, I just think there is more to it. [8D]0 -
my thought is maybe it hit something in the fence post? 0 -
Knothole in the tree. Old nail. Embedded bullet. Could be anything. I'm a believer.
I can remember seeing tracer ricochets spraying everywhere. The other rounds between the tracers, I'm sure, were ricocheting, also. Joe0 -
That guy in the video got hit in the ear muffs, not the head. Two clues....... the sound of the impact on his hearing protectors and the fact that he did not end up on the ground flopping around like a fish with blood squirting from his head.
Very interesting, non the less. I had a 180 degree ricochet .223 jacket come back and stick in my forehead years ago.0 -
that ricochet is pretty damn crazy but but movement of the dust just from the shockwave of firing the gun is pretty damn impressive too! 0 -
I volunteer as a Range Safety Officer at my local 100 yard, 6-lane gunrange...part of our duties is to sweep up the firing line - Every Time I do this, there are multiple pieces of jacket and sometimes partial bullets. I believe that the firing line is swept daily.
Wear a Hat, and safety glasses, EVERY TIME!!0 -
The other videos that came up when I looked at the youtube were pretty freaking scary...one was a drunk woman shooting a 50 cal...the other was an idiot at the range.
drunks, idiots, and guns....no wonder non gun owners are afraid of people that own guns....
y'all watch the video of the drunk woman with the 50 cal...will make you sick0 -

No...it went through the fence post (which had a hole shot through it from repetitive shooting), into the tree and back out at me. The holes in the target tell the story. It was the 4-5 round in the magazine.0 -
Divebomb...Here is the original thread from when it happened:

Was at a indoor shooting and had a 44 mag come back and hit me in the shin! I'd put that one at 180 degrees! 0 -
Holy crap!
Once I saw a guy at competition get hit in the face with a richochet of a handloaded .45 off of a wood bowling pin.
Thing put a small nick in his chin, but he took it like a trooper and DIDN'T STOP shooting!0 -
I had a .45 come straight back at me, hit my belt buckle and lodged between me and my pants. It came from my gun shot at waist level.
It missed my gun by inches. Kinda scary cuz it felt like I got hit
in the gut. didn't know what it was at first till I felt the burning.
Pulled the slug out and checked for holes. Just a welp and red with
some soreness.0 -
shoot long enough it will happen sooner or later, especially hand guns, i've been hit so many times i lost count, all the more reason safety glasses are a must, i see guy all the time with regular glasses, and no side shields drives me nuts
only one that ever drew blood was a damn wwb .38 special, i got hit n the cheek below my eye with a sliver of the jacket0 -
Been hit twice in my life. Last time was #4 birdshot from a 12 ga shotgun. Old 1148 wasn't cycling so I cleaned it, loaded it and went out back, was going to fire the mag out in an old tree stump. Fired her off and got hit in the left arm, stomach and legs. Fired out the rest of the mag into the field out back and went in, wife freaked when she saw the blood. Washed in the sink and left some pellets, went to the shower and left some more. Wife wanted to go to the emergency room so we went, told them to xray me to see if I got them all, if not, go after them, if I got them all, give me a tetanus shot and I'll be on my way. They wanted to know if I had called the law. I asked what for to arrest a tree stump? By the way, they only had to go after 1 pellet.
A few years ago had a communist pistol chambered for 7.62 Tokarev, was shooting it in the junk pile and fired the last shot into the bottom of a steel water tank, one of those that was dished. It came right back at me and hit me in the calf. Lucky for me it was just under the skin, wife dug it out. Ruined a good pair of Levis. Traded that pistol for a nice 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk0
