I think you have other issues.

    Try:

    Virus scan and removal

Get rid of your temp files and cookies

    Run defrag - probably overnight.

Shut down - power OFF - your computer and modem - leave everything off for half an hour - if you have an external modem shut it off, too.

Restart modem - wait til all the itty bitty lights are nominal, oops, normal. Then re-power the computer

    Then install Firefox.

I REALLY think something else is going on.

    Good luck.

Thats the way firefox is, its gets everything that is on the sever that it can get, and puts it on the screen when it gets it. IE is different in the fact that you see things after they are added to memory.

One way to speed things up in firefox are little add ons such as i think its called fasterfox, you can download from the modzilla website. What this type of add on does is make your computer use many different servers to get the information its requesting and load the page quicker.

where you would normally put in www.

    put in about:config

find, network.http.max-connections-per-server if you have a faster connection change it to 8 or 10 roughly..

    then find, network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server

change it higher too, there are more things you can tweak in there just google it..

    Poke around in your Regedit.
    Open..

    My Computer
    C:
    Windows
    Regedit

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Software
    Microsoft
    Start with
    RAS Autodial
Addresses = Delete any URL that you do not know. Such as SB.google. These are auto dialers that can really slow your computer down when visiting a site. These can also cause the modem to connect to the web by itself if Firefox or IE is opened if you have it set to connect automatically.

    Then scroll down and open..

    Internet Explorer
    TypedURLs = Delete them all

    Scroll down and open..

    Windows
    Current Version
    Explorer
RecentDocs = delete everything under AB (Default) that is blue in both the main and each folder.

RAS Autodial can cause a lot of headaches.
