MI Milk Trafficker Busted!
Folks here in 'The Land of Fruits and Nuts' are supposed to be the crazies in this country!

"Richard Hebron, 41, was driving along an anonymous stretch of highway near Ann Arbor, Mich., last October when state cops pulled him over, ordered him to put his hands on the hood of his mud-splattered truck and seized its contents: 453 gal. of milk.
Yes, milk. Raw, unpasteurized milk. To supply a small but growing market among health-conscious city and suburban dwellers for milk taken straight from the udder, Hebron was dealing the stuff on behalf of a farming cooperative he runs in southwestern Michigan. An undercover agricultural investigator had infiltrated the co-op as part of a sting operation that resulted in the seizure of $7,000 worth of fresh-food items, including 35 lbs. of raw butter, 29 qt. of cream and all those gallons of the suspicious white liquid. Although Hebron's home office was searched and his computer seized, no charges have been filed. "When they tested the milk, they couldn't find any problems with it," says Hebron. "It seems like they're just looking for some way to shut us down."

The first time I went into California by land was in 1969. The California Highway Patrol and the FFV Police (Fresh Fruits and Vegetables) had traffic backed up for as far as the eye could see searching for fresh fruits and vegetables and checking everybody's "papers". At first I thought it was just like crossing an international border, then I realized I was crossing an international border. I've been through that process since then, but the first time was the worst.
I suspect the case in Michigan was just that the right people ain't getting their cut.0 -
Yeah - that's taken very seriously here in these parts. The
Mediterranean Fruit Fly got into California back when I was
a kid. They've set millions of traps and sprayed huge areas of
Southern California (usually from above in helos and dusters)
and today (50 years later) they've been able to hold the flies in
check ... not eradicate them. ... it's a 50 year tie![8D]0 -
One of the dairy farmers that remained in business when I was a kid used to drive house to to house selling fresh from the cow milk,butter and cream. The milk was the best stuff served ice cold![:D]
The only problem I can remember was every now and then the cows would eat bitter weed and boy was that a bad taste-woooow![:0][:(]0 -
He--, I grew up on raw milk. Was 18 and in the Army before I ever tasted any kind except raw milk. Bought it from the farmer just down the road who sold to almost everyone in town. Bring your own jugs it was 50 cents a gallon. Nothing like it. [:p] 0 -
My cousin was in the dairy business here in MI up until a few years ago, he told me it was illegal for him to consume any of the raw milk from the tank.[:0][:0]

I wouldn't even call what they stock on the shelves now days milk. It is so watered down you can't eveb tell what you are drinking. I remember the days you could go to the local dairy and buy raw milk from the cooling tank. Those were the days. The cream was so thick and rich you nearly had to spoon it from the container.0 -
