    Put in a claim to the VA for Temporary 100% disability. Make sure they know this is service connected.

    Yes you can but you may not get it for awhile (ie you will get back paid). It would be at your active duty pay grade.

    Personally if I was you I would put in for VA disability compensation that would run for the rest of your life. You can do this by going to see a service officer with the DAV, VFW, or one of the other veterans service organizations.

    If you injuries are bad enuff to need reconstructive surgery I can assure you you are eligable for VA disability compansation.

    good point sarge I didn't think of the temparary 100%.

    I still think he should apply for a permanent rating as well though.
