Its great to see someone passing down interest in shooting sports. Unfortunately my 14 year old step-son does not share my interest in shooting. I have tried to get him interested without being to pushy about it. We have gone out shooting a few times but he could care less. He would rather watch a basketball game than go shooting.[V]

He's a good kid though. Really into sports right now. And he does like to go fishing! Here is a pic of our trip two weeks ago to South Padre Island.

What is up with the spots on the tails of those fish? What kind of fish are they?

I am fortunate one of my sons lives and breathes hunting, trapping, and guns-he is 11 and is waiting for the fur check from the furs he shipped to the Canada fur auction.
The other son is the one who just bought the new gun so maybe there is hope for him yet. If I could just get him off video games all would be good with the world!

Good to see a 14 year old boy showing interest and actually purchasing his own firearm. I also like those brownings[^]

They are Red Drum. Most people down there just call them Reds though. They are caught in the shallow waters (1 to 3 feet) of the Laguna Madre and other bays behind Padre Island. If the water is calm you can sometimes see the fish you are casting to. When they are feeding their tails break the surface of the water. You can cast lures to them or fish with live shrimp on the bottom or under a bobber. Very good eating!
