Little Ford Help Here Please

97 F150 Reg Cab Driver's elect window won't work, when it rains it works so that tell me a ground but where, when you push the button the dome light and the pass side courtesy blinks. Any ideas[:D][:(!][:0][?]

    You've got a short in your wiring harness somewhere. Check the wires that run between the door and the cab. Chances are likely that the constant bending and unbending has taken it's toll on the wires there.

    can't help ya without taking the door apart, i can tell ya you have a pain in the azz problem there, don't assume it is 100% a ground it may have a short in the positive and the water is completing the connection, i'm just saying keep an open mind

    IMO that would depend on what you use it for. If you want sport truck that is basically a car that you occasionally do some LIGHT hauling with, go ahead and buy GM.
    If you want a TOUGH WORK TRUCK or you want to haul trailors, buy a FORD!
    I've been a GM guy when it comes to cars. Grew up on Small block Chevy v-8s. LOVE EM! But when I need a relable truck I learned the hard way that Ford is the way to go.

    Sounds like the motor might be shorted internally, causing excessive current draw which'll cause dimming and flickering lights.

    Look at the used car lots. #1 truck people want rid of is a Dodge. #2 is Chevy/GMC.

    What do you think this is "Ask the Experts"? Seriously, sounds to me like something is binding causing the motor to pull too much current thus the voltage drop on the lights.

    catpealler sounds to be the one with the idea on this one. if it works most or part of the time, it's not the switch. if it doesn't have problems staying up or doesn't sound like a machine gun going off inside the door panel, it's not the regulator. Intermittent working with other electrical symptoms (ie: dimming dome light) point to the window lift motor. I know this because I AM a former auto glass technician.

    First of all, you need to junk the Ford and get you a real truck. Dodge comes to mind. [8D]

    Sounds like you need to replace the little motor inside the door panel. My van did the same thing. It got weaker and weaker when trying to roll it up, until it finally wouldnt even go down. I just had mine replaced about 1-2 months ago and it cost me $232 including the labor.

    Electric windows are a royal pain in the arse and should be left to those that do them for a living. In the years that I spent wrenching I always preferred to send them out to the glass shop. Was always cheaper for the owner than paying me to try and figure it out. The only exception was when the wires were broken inside the rubber boot between door and jamb. Those I fixed.

    I have bought used motors at the wreckers for less than $50 and had glass shop do the install for about $30.

    Get rid of it and buy a Dodge...bout the best advice I can give.[;)][:D]

    Hate to say it guys, but they all have good and bad points. It doesn't matter what the name tag says you are going to have some kind of problems. The regulator in our mopar van window quit at 2 months old. I've towed many a chevy or dodge or ford or riceburner, more often new than not. If you look them over you find everybody is using someone else's parts. It's just one big swapfest with the auto industry these days.
