where should I look to find the cheapest tickets?
My brother wants to fly home. I am stuck at work and he asked me to look and see what I can get him a ticket for as he does not have a computer.
Thanks for the help.

There's no right answer. Different websites offer different fare structures. When we go to fly, I look at almost 40 websites to find the "best" fare.
But, I can give you some tips and tricks:
1. Start off at one of the major portals - www.travelocity.com, www.orbitz.com and www.expedia.com. Search for the schedule and flights that you want.
2. If you're lucky, you can then use one of the "deep discount" websites and pretty much figure out what you're going to get. These websites don't allow you to pick your airline or time, but they'll let you narrow down how many layovers you have, not flying late at night, etc. You can go to www.hotwire.com or www.priceline.com. If you've got lots and lots and lots of flights, this might not be the best avenue.
3. My personal favorite is a website www.kayak.com. This lists most, but not all, of the airlines, major or minor and you can tweak a number of options. But, the results are often overwhelming.
4. The portals do not list ALL of the airlines. There are some airlines, such as Frontier, Southwest, etc. that are not on a majority of the portals. You can go to http://airlinecontactinfo/index/html?country=USA&initial=A to get a list of ALL of the airlines and their respective websites. Warning: this has every rinky-dink airline that flies in the USA, so the list is huge.
5. After you've found the fare you think you want, go to the airline's website directly. Sometimes you'll find an even lower fare there, as airlines are starting to come around to offering the lowest possible fare period. You might also find flights that the portals don't offer because the portals' seats have been sold out but the airline still has seats available.
Good luck with this. It usually takes me two or three hours before I've found the right ticket at the right price, but you'll often find that it is time well spent.

www.airfarewatchdog.com is best.... 0 -
Jeff thanks for all the info. It is amazing to see how many different prices are out there for the same flight! I did try some of the larger names on your list, but will now try others
