If you have any service related injuries get them treated before you get discharged (if you have a choice!). I've been out of work a month and probably another two weeks before the VA clears me to return. I filed for temp disability, but who knows how long that will take to process. No paycheck , just living on my savings stinks. The VA doctors and nurses are great, but the admin takes forever. Temp disability pays only base pay for your grade. If you stay and get treated you will also get housing alowance, et cet. I would have stayed in and got treated, but I had not seen my family since I mobed and was not allowed to take leave when I returned. Also a long wait (months) to get treated and I really wanted to see my family. Looking back I should have stayed in and got treated. The only people I knew who stayed were single.
