STOLEN HEIRLOOM - Winchester 1894
Hi. I have started up my search again for one of several guns stolen from our home 9-30-04 in McClain County, Oklahoma. I am looking for a WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 - Carbine Octagon barrel 25-35 with serial number 823509. This gun belonged to my great-grandfather, and now that I have a grandson finding it is even more important. I would pay a sizable amount for this gun or for information leading to its return. I know how you feel. I lost (among other things) my dad's 1911 (not A1) US Navy issue when some punk broke into my house. I thought about advertising in the local trading papers something like this:
"Wanted to buy:
Old Colt 1911's. Top price paid. Call 555-5555."
I would know my dad's gun on sight after all these years, and I would pay top dollar to anyone who could produce it, no questions asked.
Think that would work?
Your Winchester is somewhat rare, I think, and it's a good chance it will turn up. Keep the faith!0 -
Can't help you but good luck. I'll be missing out on my grandfathers really old gun-don't even know what kind-b/c it was at my uncle's house during a nasty divorce and that crazy bitc* took the gun and we think threw it into a river. Since you have a serial number DON'T give up[:)] 0 -
sorry you have had no luck, i would pay double for my grandfathers SxS 12 gauge ithaca that was stolen out of his house when he died, it had locomotives engraved down the sides, made around 1900, it was given to him as a boy by my great grandfather 0 -
ive never lost a gun to theft, but know that if I did a few that I have it would make me sick to my stomach. not the high dollar guns but the heirloom guns would be very upsetting.

There is something amiss with your description... "Carbine Octagon barrel" is not possible. If your Model 1894 had an octagon barrel, it most certainly was not a "Carbine". Instead, it was a "Sporting Rifle", and worth a fair bit more $$$.0 -
had a high standard olympic stolen from home years ago....2&3 oz weights, 2nd model 22 short # 416713....keep hoping 0 -

My family never got one stolen, but, one of my great grandfathers brought a rifle back from the wars, a century or more ago.
It was kept in a closet.
When my dad was a kid, around 1935 or so, they were having a 4th of July parade in his little town in South Dakota. One of the kids was portraying Daniel Boone on one of the floats. My dad let him borrow the old military rifle. The damn kids figured a way to load the gun with a .410 shotgun shell, and when the damn kid dressed as Daniel Boone went past the grandstands, he fired the gun into the air.
The NEXT DAY my grandmother had that rifle donated to the museum.
Today, I am the only one in the family interested in guns, and that rifle would be mine today if not for the .410 shotgun shell.0 -
My mistake - I thought it was a carbine barrel, but it was not. It did have the octagon barrel, though. Thanks for correcting me on that. 0 -
Had the same think happen years ago. I was in the service and my folks moved. Movers were crooks. Came home on leave and 1890 Winchester pump .22 from my grandfather is missing. Back to the old house to look just to make sure. Not there but bumped into a neighbor and her son had found a small rifle tossed over the fence behind our house. Down to the police station and after some description presto - got it back. Probably one in a million deal.

First question. Did you file a police report of it stolen?
It greatly increases your chance of a recovery should any police officer ever run the numbers, it pass through a pawn shop (low lifes who steal can't seen to stay out of those places) or should anyone ever try to sell it legally. Hit on the big computer and you get your firearm back.
