Got my Nov. hunt set up today,
I am going to Pa. this Nov. & get to hunt Black Bear on a large tract of private ground in Tioga County, Pa.
The season is only 3 days long / Mon-Tue-Wen, before thanksgiving, then on thanksgiving I will spend it at my Father-in-laws house then Fri & Sat on to some serious rabbit hunting, sunday hunting is not allowed in Pa. except for coyotes & I am working steady to try & learn to use the hand blown mouth calls , then just to top off the hole deal, Monday is their opening deer season.
Just think a hole week in the field & my wife will be busy running & shopping with her mother.
Meanwhile my father-in-law & I will get in some really nice hunting.

New Rifle Time ????
Yep, sure is, and I ordered the componets yesterday. I am having a 24 in Douglas barrel set on a 1909 mauser action, bolt altered, bolt face squared, target crowned, drilled & tapped, buler safety, timmeny trigger, & everything blued except bolt & that will be jeweled.
The above componets will then be set into an Exb Grade walnut stock with 3 birdseye maple diamond inlays, glass bedded & free floated,
Leupold base & rings & a recoil pad.
The only thing left is tring to decide what size & type glass to go on top.
Oh yea, its in a 7MM-08 cal.

here's a couple I built in the past , the one with the inlayed maple diamond is a 243, the other is a 22-250
the bottom pic is my 6MM that was built by an old gunsmith here in carrollton, mo. in 1970 {I worked for him when I was a kid, & he taught me how to build rifles}0 -

Do you do your inlays by hand, or use a panto mill of sorts..?0 -
In answer to the first question, Both the 243 & 22-250 are sold.
I sold both to a man in Marshall,Mo for $3500.oo for the pair.
Second question, the maple inlays are inlayed using a chisel, file, & true set junior, they are really easy once you get the hang of it. just remb. to file at an angle so they fir extremly tight. then sand everything flush.

I've tried doing inlay by hand and need alottt of practice, it seems.lol
Never heard of the true set junior, but might be worth me looking
into
I attended a hammer-in in FL. a few year back where Steve Jernigan
put on a fine demo on how to do inlay with a panto mill. It's
amazing just how fine/tiny work can be done with such a large machine.
Mr. Jernigan's custom knives are well known for their fine inlay. Here
is just one fine example.0 -
