What good is a C&R if folks won't ship to you?
Rifle is obviously over 50 years old. They stopped making them in the 1930s, yet seller refuses to ship to a C&R.

Did you ask him why? 0 -
I don't see where it specifically says no Type 03 FFL. It just says "Must ship to your FFL" 0 -

+1, a C&R is a FFL license... just a different type.0 -
Now and again, will have an item that IS C&R, and I want to bid on, and the seller specifies must ship to DEALER. I email them- and POLITELY say "I am holder of a C&R FFL, and interested in bidding on your .37 Gopher Stomper. Since these went out of production in 1932, they are classed as a C&R eligible firearm. Can you accpt a C&R FFL on this item? Thank you" Some will say sure, some say no, some don't KNOW what a C&R FFL is, and some become screaming maniacs. In the latter case, I am delighted I did NOT get into a business dealing with them. [:p] Have made new friends out of some. 0 -
Buy my stuff....I will ship to you! 0 -
What is a C&R?
Why do you have one and for what purpose?

They are an idiot. They don't deserve your money. Shop elsewhere.

Sage, a C&R, or Curio & Relics license is a type of FFL license (03 FFL) that allows you to buy firearms that are either 50yrs old and older, or ones that are on the ATF's list of C&R's, and have them ship directly to your house instead of having to go through a dealer (01 FFL). There are a few catches but that's the jist. The C&R license is not a license to engage in a business, but one to build your own personal collection. I believe the cost is $30 for 3yrs. Well worth it considering most recoup that money on their first purchase, not having to pay a dealer transfer fee. There are also a ton of companies online that will give you a discount if you have one.
If you are interested, you can go here and order an application from the ATF (free). On the right side scroll down until you see F 7CR (5310.16). Thats the C&R application.

I did email the seller and he said he would not ship to a C&R. I emailed him back asking why but have not gotten a response.
IMO an FFL Dealer that does not know what a C&R is has no business selling firearms.0 -
I have the C&R and have found it useful for my particular interest, which is mititary surplus and collectable firearms and their history. I have bought many and sold only 2 (may be a character flaw). One sold directly to another C&R holder and the other to a non-license holder, which went through an 01FFL.
I have found MOST sellers willing to ship to C&R holders, when the item qualifies. Several have said no way. I chalk those up to fear of the ambiguities of the rules, or an unwillingness on their part to look them up. Their loss, as I will figure the transfer cost into my bid and go lower.
It is worth the 30 bucks, but make sure you do your homework and know the rules.0 -
I just received my C&R application. I can't wait to send it in so I can start buying Mosin Nagants. 0 -

I had a C&R for three years and it rarely helped. Pretty pointless license to have these days. [V]
An 01 is the only way to go, if you can get one. Although my auctions clearly state it, I won't ship to a C&R holder in CA, MA, NJ, or New York City for any reason. Buyers from those states (and police state of New York City) must transfer through an 01 FFL holder. [;)]
Despite the fact that C&R's can recieve firearms in some of these places?
I'll go with bigtire on this one.0 -
Some dealers will not ship to an 03 licensee because the eZcheck system will not verify them. 0 -
I've had my C&R for many years. One gun purchase pays for the cost of the license. I also get discounts from places like midwayusa.com. Anybody that deals in firearms and doesn't know what a C&R License is are just showing their ignorance. I wouldn't buy from them anyway.
I think some of them do it as a way of thumbing their noses at a Class III License holder. In their mind if you don't have a Class I license you don't deserve to know the secrete handshake.[:p]

If you think this rifle is worth the money and you really want it use an 01FFL holder as a transfer agent, at that price what's another $20-$30. IMO this looks like a decent piece, but with the alterations I wouldn't call $800+ a good deal. 0 -
