If you've been planning on buying or building and AR-15, I would strongly suggest buying and starting to build a receiver before the next election. That will help you have a grandfathered pre-ban for the new assault rifle ban that will soon be implemented.
Don't get caught short. The law will say you have to have the gun completed by what ever the ban date is, but if you have proof of purchase of the receiver before the date, I don't see how they can prove when you finished it.

The problem is that there are so many other cool guns that we won't be able to have either [V]. It won't just be AR's when/if (see when is first) it will be anything that is really cool.0 -

Don't know about tuna, but I saw some guys get caught short last time, and with Hillary and Obama in office, we need all of the AR's we can get built. I'm buying at least 10 new receivers in the next few months. If I'm wrong, I'll sell them. If not, I have some friends and family who can use them.[;)]0 -

If you are going for stock guns you can get some good deals on used guns, that is what I do most of the time. I am doing a couple of custom builds which will cost me more money then my last 2 used AR's I bought but it will be a lot cheeper then having someone else build it.
For a standard AR you can build one with the cheepest parts you can find for about $600. Once you start doing upgrades the price goes up. You need about $100 worth of tools to do your own true build and not just snaping a upper and a lower together.0 -

Does anyone have any thoughts on home-finished 80% receivers?
I have several made up (extras) and cant help but wonder what limbo-land they will be in if this scenario plays out.
Since the receiver IS the weapon, couldn't you just stack em in the ol gun cabinet with the rest of em?

I'm not convinced yet. Sure the democrats are against the war, but when it's one on one, Rudy, Mitt, or Fred will give them a run. The left is mandering for their base (alienating many middle and right leaning). The right is actually middle of the road and is capable of taking a stronger position on national defense, while the left' slogans are "The War on Terror is a bumber sticker" and "General Betray us." This don't play in Peoria. Particularly, Rudy or Thompson can take a serious "I'm not taking crap from no one" attitude in a debate and make any of those three potential democrats look like a little school girl. (McCain would look like a grumpy old man and Mitt is an unknown.)
WHile the Rebulicans and not actually conservatives. They all know the AWB was George Bush's second biggest mistake behind "Read my lips. No new taxes." No of these Republican candiates will sign an AWB. They may be old fashion Truman democrats, but they are not stupid.
Nevertheless, I WANT that AR before the election. Price will sky rocket after the election if I am wrong.

.223 is getting hard to fine, better stock up on ammo too. I recently bought 2 stripped ar receivers myself, just to have. 0 -

I wasn't refering to 80% receivers but to finished ones that are presently legal to make (for yourself, NOT for resale).

I am not sure what receivers you are talking about then.
FWIW you CAN legally sell home built guns. There is tons of info about that on the 1919a4 forums.0 -
I recently bought nine (Superior Arms)AR lowers for $88 each. Completed the first one with a Blackthorne A3 lightweight carbine kit for a grand total of $507 in the rifle. Topped it off with a EOTech clone holographic sight $159.[:D][8D]

Lord no. So we can have as many pre-ban AR on the market and grandfathered as we can. We shouldn't have to do it, but we need to be ready.
Don't believe I've ever cheated, scammed of scalped anyone on a gun. I have made money on some sales because I got the gun cheap, but I've also sold guns for what I had in them to friends and family.

When you order those ARs or receivers...dont forget to stock up on tin foils hats and extra kool-aid.
There will not be a weapons ban regardless of who goes in office. I think both sides of the fence realize that it will not fly again...
I do recommend stocking up on ammo just because it is going to continue to sky rocket in price for quite a while.0 -

It's not like there is a shortage of AR recievers. And even if there were, what's wrong with buying low and selling high? It's called capitalism! Supply and demand economics applies to many other goods besides firearms. Do you have investments in the stock market? Shame on you!0
