Nickel or hard chrome plating
I have a couple of old colt's that the plating is getting thin on and would like to know if it can be redone and by whom.
Does it have to go back to the factory for nickel or is there shops set up that can do it and make it look like factory work. Would hard chrome look ok on a gun that had nickel?

Hard chrome is better than nickel All though there is some very good electorless nickel and very hard. Hard chrome is really nice in a bright matt finish. Which is done with a bright thin dense chrome.
Here is Mahovsky's Metalife web site or goggle gun plating.

I did this type of plating for years but I work for the aircraft ind. now still doing hard chrome.

I have used Mahovsky Metalife for years. They are great. It really depends on what look you want.

...A great plater Ive dealt with is http://www.originalmetaloy.com/pricing.html
...I looked/em'd half a dozen plater's last year to find ONE that was reputable and would even ANSWER me back for a small job. I understood "minimum's" and stated such, Metaloy was the ONLY plater that responded. I am very happy with Metaloy's work, com, time frame and Chris is just a plain 'ol good guy. Your work will not be lost in the "shuffle" or be half-azzed because it is not a "big job".
...Hard chrome is very durable and will "hide" more sins than nickle, prep is everything. Pits or any other major imperfection will still be visible under the new plating if the imperfection is pretty bad.
...Metaloy offers more than the site describes...a current price guide and detailed list of what they offer can be mailed to you. Chris (owner) is a great guy to deal with, highly recommend...give him a call and Chris will be happy to disscuss your project with you...[;)]

That is the company I used to work for in Tulsa. Moved to Claremore and then sold the company. quote:Originally posted by COLT

That is the main landing gear to a 777 being prepared for chrome plating. That big ugly thing around it is the anode.quote:Originally posted by fishkiller41

I understand that hard chrome is a more durable finish but I still like the look of polished Nickle plating better. 0
