    Monkey,
When I was trained on the M-16A1, for full auto, squeeze the trigger, when you hear the buffer spring, release the trigger and you will have fired a 3-5 rd burst[:D]

If it sprayed oil all over you, it was too wet. Those things will function flawlessly when they're bone dry.

Let's see shall we make any reference to a Zumbo here?
No let's not go there. It's good to see someone try something they criticized in the past, and finally "see the light".
I have shot the M-16 in the past, but since I have a single shot shotgun that eats about 10,000 rounds a year, I would not buy something that eats ammo at those rates.

I'll simply be happy with my AR-15s.

    Total sales can not lie.
There are more AR15 rifles and accessories sold for the AR then any other rifle for the last 15 years.
You have now noticed why they are so popular[^]

Dang! Because of your topic title, I am left red-faced and embarrassed. After reading your title, I summoned the whole family into the computer room to look before I opened your topic. Just before opening I told the family "Get ready! EMM is finally going to admit to being gay."

Imagine my embarrassment when I read it was only about EMM shooting a M-16. Somehow I feel tricked by EMM.

    Monkeyman,

The AR15/M16 takes an inordinate amount of bashing on this forum. It is one of the best weapons ever designed.

TRfox, I have a confession to make. Several months ago I decided to stop wasting so much time on this forum and get back involved with NRA and have become active in local Friends of NRA and legislative/fundraising.

It set me back about $170 (a little less, but that's tax included). A bit much for 200 rounds that lasted about ten minutes or so, but a heckuva lot cheaper than actually buying a transferable M16 and more fun than being robbed at the slots![:D]

I have never fired a fully auto gun, but I like the AR15 and have owned an early SP1 since about 1979. I find it very fun to shoot and I would have no qualms at all about using such a rifle in combat. It's a short-range, anti-personnel caliber not meant for 2,000 yard shots or breaking engine blocks but that's what it was designed to be.

If you get the chance again, try an MP-5. Even more controllable than the M-16. Yes, it's only a pistol caliber, but it is one SWEET shooting gun.

Enjoy the AR when you get it.

Oh, and crow is best eaten cold.
    But that's debatable. [}:)][;)][:D][:D]

Glad to see you joined the BLACK side of firearm owners. They realy are a lot of fun.

FYI--- Its not the guns fault that it spayed oil on you. That would be the fault of whoever cleaned it last and did not wipe away the extra oil.

For years I scoffed at the M16/AR15 family. I swore I would never own one. Then I shot one for the first time and I was hooked. Welcome to the "DARK" side EMM...[:D][;)]

Glad to here about your conversion.

A friend of mine bought an AK. His first time out with it, I brought my cousin's AR. He just bought the AK and was in love with the AR.

He had his own Colt about two months later. No comparison.

I figured a gerbil was involved. Maybe an AK, his hero's weapon of choice, never would have guessed on an AR

    dolfan,

I'm probably more Libertarian than anything else.[8D]

    stevenrayspeck,

I don't blame the gun one bit - I figured and the range guy confirmed that they had left it dirty, so to speak.

    ElKabong,

I owned an AK once upon a time - sold it 'cause I didn't care for it. I much prefer the SKS as far as commie guns go.

  • El Kabong
    EMM -

Why do you prefer a SKS to an AK, all BS aside?

  • ElMuertoMonkey
    El Kabong,

The AK I had was a Romanian one and it just didn't do it for me. I didn't care for the stamped metal parts, the poor balance, or its inherent inaccuracy even at shorter ranges. The SKS's I've shot seem just as robust, the Norinco ones have milled receivers; and once you get used to them, stripper clips have a certain charm all their own. The SKS also handles a bit better, in my opinion, especially the so-called "paratrooper" models made by Norinco.

Ok, I respect that..try a better AK..like a Hungarian or a pre 89 Chinese, and you may change your mind...

OTOH, a good SKS (full size mind you)is a great rifle IMHO..
