Unable to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, a childless couple in southern India hanged themselves.
The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found Sunday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad.
Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called Puppy, and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom.
"The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29," said police inspector V. Anantaiah.

When will people realize that dogs just don't live that long, so if you can't handle death and loss very well, get a different pet.
dog and cat: 13-15 years
Finch: 2-3 years
Parakeet: 2-3 days
Parrot: 50-60 years0 -
Could be they had nothing else. India is a very different part of the world and if they are getting on in years with no one to take care of them and little else to live for, the loss of a companion who for 13 years provided unconditional love may have proved to be too much.

Can't think of too many reasons to kill myself, but people and dogs ain't one of them.
Being Indian, they probably don't see death the way Christians do. Christians see themselves as only getting one shot at life and death scares the hell out of them.[:p]

Perhaps next time, the dog can come back as their kid. It wasn't "just a dog" to them.0 -

That dog was probably a relative who had died previously as a human.... It is just possible they wanted to keep up with him in the afterlife. So maybe for them it was the right thing to do. Folks I only Question the ethics of one religion and since these people had a dog they obviously weren't from that religion....
Personally I hope they are reunited with their dog in heaven right now (or whoever he was before)!!!!0 -
