CGR - you can take the Small Bore school (camp) at Camp Perry oHIo. There, you will receive the same expert instruction you would in Colorado, you will just be closer to home.
There is nothing wrong with a "Match 64" for getting started and/or Junior rifle. While a "Match 54" has a faster lock time, you can learn the basics with ANY rifle that works reliably. If you need to borrow a rifle for the school, give me a shout. I'll loan you one of my Anschutz'.

I lettered on the ROTC rifle team in college. We shot ancient Remington small bore target rifles.
Shooting consistently well is a lot like meditation. The key to good marksmanship for me was to clear my mind and relax. Along with the basics. Controled breathing, line up the sights, let out half a breath and squeeeeeze.
Never drink any cafinated beverages before target shooting.0
