    That explains it. That episode was a good one. Georges father was the founder of Festivus because as a Jew he didn't observe Christmas. So he invented "Festivus for the Rest of us".
    The best part is the ritual "airing of grievances" at the Festivus dinner table. Where he said to his family and guests....

    I did some research on that because I always assumed the Costanzas were Jewish. A friend of mine said no way.

    I found that it is never mentioned what religion they are in any episode. I found couple of sites that believe they were Jewish but no episode confirms it.
