best way to skin a squirrel

I've always cut a slit sideways along their back, stuck 2 fingers in each side, then pulled like heck. Is there a better way. I'm taking my nephew hunting and was hoping there was an easier way to do it. Is it best to skin them in the field when warm, cause it seems like the longer you wait, the stiffer they get, the harder it is to get the skin off. Thanks

    Cut one small hole, at the base of the tail. Insert air-chuck into hole.
    Hold skin tightly around said chuck. A short,(1-2 second)blast of air, should 90% skin your squirrel. That is if it is not riddled with shot-holes. Perfect if hunted/killed by .22 head-shot..

    I always cut around the neck, hold onto the head, put 2 fingers in the cut and "glove" the squirrel. Of course while the critter is still warm.

    I try a cut under the tail first, on the back of the neck second, and in the middle of the back third.

    If the middle of the back doesn't skin it, then it's too damn tough to be eaten.

    that's the way i was taught as a kid. a pair of lineman pliers or side cutes will realy help save your knife. use them to cut off the legs

    I have to admit -- I never really hunted squirrels as a kid, since we lived in Los Angeles and a hunting trip was a fairly serious undertaking. By the time I got into it, seriously, I was out here in Indiana, and I basically did a miniature version of field-dressing and skinning a deer. It worked, so it never occurred to me to ask if there might be an easier/more efficient way.

    Proof that the only dumb question is the one not asked.

    Actually, no, a lot of dumb questions are asked, but -- oh, well, you get the idea. I hope. I'm not sure I do at this point.[:p]
