Tried Something New (and it worked!)

It's getting hard to stir up any collector guns that hide in attics or closets, so I tried something new this year. I ran an ad in the newspaper that I had Christmas Cash for any unwanted old military rifles, helmets, swords, and pistols.

Today it paid off. One old gentleman and his buddy sold me:

Colt Police Positive, .38, with real stag grips.
Iver Johnson .32 (buyback candidate)
J.C. Higgins .22 (buyback candidate)
Unknown Belgium hammer double, poor, (buyback candidate)
Marlin Mod 60 (buyback candidate)
Winchester Mod 74, .22 short gallery gun
1942 WC Garand bayonet (10") with WWI (16") wood scabbard

I should be able to double my money with just the buyback junk. Sometimes you have to shake the trees to get the fruit! [;)][:D]

    OH ok. I thought you got the garand with the bayonet.
    I have a '42 garand, no bayo though.

    Update!
    I got a call today from a fellow with three Japanese WWII swords his dad brought home. [:p][:D]

    He claims he knows what they are and I'm going to look at them tomorrow. Ads in the paper do pay off I guess, so you fellows can do it too. This is information you can profit from if you are willing to. [;)]

    I made a really good score with the guy with the swords. Two were civilian so no real interest there, but he had a pristine Shin-Gunto, named, and without a blemish. My first thought was it was a Chinese repo, but using the loupe, the grain of the blade, as well as the hamon stood right out. Picked it up for only $600 and will probably keep it myself! [:p][:D]

    AJ, I'm hoping ya'll do! There is still tons of valuable stuff waiting for the grandkids to fence to crack dealers. If the old folks have an easy way to sell it where someone comes to see it, and pays them for it, it helps everyone.

    Couple years ago, we started looking at the weekly shoppers papers and bulletins for 'estate sales' and 'farm auctions'. She likes glassware, I like other kinds of toys. At first, had to fill out 4473's when buying at auction but.........ATF changed the rules. They say that the auctioneer is not the owner of the firearm but merely selling it for the true owner so it is treated as a private sale so.........no more paperwork, both long guns and handguns. Last one I acquired was a Smith model 19, short barrel, nickel plated, cylinder turned but never fired, plus a set of Pachmayr grips .... with box and all paper work. One coming up near the end of January is listed as 'collector gun sale'. Your guess is as good as mine as to definition but they will probably itemize the stuff in their ad. If it looks promising, may post an article on it. First one I picked up that way at a farm estate auction was a Remington model 12 made shortly after they began production. Most of the bluing was still there, no marks to speak of, excellent bore and wood. Like the think the farmer kept it near the kitchen door to pop sparrows and such who were munching on the chicken's feed.
