Father's Day Present
My little girl got me an interesting gift for father's day this year. She told me she had "got me a pet that would live longer than me."
Introducing, Lucille -

Lucy is a Cherry-Headed Red-foot tortoise. She is about 4.5 inches long and is about 2 years old. They live to be 50+.

She's pretty cool, follows me around in the yard like a dog!

She loves having her head scratched and petted.

Be neat to have a pet that I outlive. No more threads about losing a friend unless I kill it somehow!
She's a little more friendly than the Red-eared Sliders out in the stock tank...

It's a damn zoo around here.

The Cherry-heads get to be about 8 inches in length.
The Red-eared sliders get 10-12 inches. The big one can put away some goldfish!!0 -

I have a few of the Sliders but only one cherry head. The Sliders are aquatic turtles, spending most of their time in water.
Never had a tortoise before...0 -
...Matt, catch some locust and twist one of the wings so it does not fly off and drop it in front of Lucile, they love 'em!
...My daughter had four or five different kinds of tortoise's for years, they even laid eggs and started having babies after 3-4 years, baby tortoise's!
...First year she had them she/we thought they had wondered off, they were not to be found anywhere. Spring rolled around, and I saw a couple of the little buggers digging out of the ground(!), hibernating, they had not gone anywhere...[;)]

Better not forget! The wife gave me a watch...
If she thought the watch got second billing to the tortoise she would be PO'ed.
Thanks, baby...

No ROLO for the lawyer? Just kidding. Nice watch.0 -
Pretty. What variety of tortoise is it? Looks similar to our native species, but with more color.
How big will it grow?0 -

It is a Cherry-Headed Red-Foot Tortoise. Not sure where they are native of yet.
They grow to about 8 inches and live 50+ years...0
