Can't get the topoff the cocktail shaker!!

I've got one of those old partly frosted glass cocktail shakers with the domed metal top and pour spout. It has not been used in probably
30years. I want to use it but can't get the top off. It is a slip fit to the glass bottom, probably old sugar residue between it and the glass. I've had it soaking in water for 12 hours and it will not budge. Any suggestions? Be kind.

    Soak it in warm soapy water.

    I tried the warm/hot water on the top only to no avail. I'll give it some more time in soapy water.

    soak the bottom in ice water to contract the glass, then the top in warm water for a few seconds, being careful not to suspend the glass in the warm water

    Soaking in warm water over time will disolve the sugar. A light tap on the top with the handle of a carving knife around the edge should do it.

    Otherwise its time to get out the propane torch!!!![;)][;)][:0][:0]

    Yes. With WD-40 and duct tape, you can fix anything.

    Soaked in hot soapy water on the stove for three hours, was on the way to the garage for the WD40 and duct tape, maybe a hammer. But gave it one more try and it came off like it had never been stuck!
    I think it felt treatened.
    Another important problem solved by the collective efforts of GB
    patrons.

    After use, put it back together and be sure and coat it with anti-seize compound so you never have this problem again! (joke)

    Seriously, store it with the top and bottom apart. (anti-seize compound might be poisonous).
