[8D]--Good morning, Do any of you guys use a METAL DETECTOR and do you have any recommendations ??

--Ever hear of "Famous Trails" , Detector???

    We have pretty good success with the AN/PSS-12, although it's pretty much phased out and now we have the AN/PSS-14.

    Sometimes you find the mine. Sometimes the mine finds you.

    I've got a Garrett, and it has been great. I just dug up over 100 lbs. of artifacts from the Fredericksburg Va. battlefield. Most of them shell fragments, wagon pieces and about 25 bullets.

    What are you going to try and find?
    A magnetic flux locator will find any type of metal that would stick to a magnet, not newer coins, silver or gold.
    I make my bread and butter finding magnetic materials and a Schonstedt is the only way to go.

    I have the Whites XLT I have used the crap out of it! The cool features are some of the preset programs, Coin, Relic, Gold, Jewelry. You can also find some specialized programs (Settings) online that other XLT owners have set up for special applications like "Black Sand" at the beach, Wet sand, etc.

    I highly recommend a Whites.

    I have a Compass Scanner that's a pretty powerful seeker, has three nine volt batteries. Deep seeking can be a two edge sword. The first day I had it I got a reading in the yard. Showed as non ferrous metal. Dug clear down to eleven inches. Proved to be a 2"square of brass from an old small wind-up clock. It's also rather heavy. I bought a Bounty Hunter, inexpensive, $118, and it will do almost everything the Compass will do, (not as deep) and it is very light which is a plus if you're on a hot beach all day. I used it down on the shore where the treasure galleons wrecked up in a hurricane in the early 1600's in the vicinity of what is now Vero Beach, FL and a lot around Sebastian Inlet. I was glad it was light.
