Retro Hunting
Early tomorrow morning I'm driving over to the Southwest corner of Arkansas to hunt on my buddy's farm when modern gun deer season opens on Monday. He's been seeing a 10 point in one area, so I'll do a little additional scouting of fresh rubs, scrapes, and trails on Friday since I'll need all of the advantages I can get. I'll be using a trusty old Winchester Model 92 SRC in 44-40 with a silencer (saddle ring noise abatement system installed) for those long shots (up to 50-75 yards - maybe) and for those close shots (general vicinity of the stand) I'll give it a try with a trusty old companion 1st Generation Single Action in 44-40. If I don't get a good enough shot without the real chance of wounding an animal, I won't take the shot. The truth is, even if I don't get one, I get real enjoyment from hunting with the same guns as our forefathers as well as just being out in the woods. If I'm fortunate enough to get one, I'll post a picture.

Sounds like you are in store for a good hunt. I like to take an old rifle out now and then also. Something about hunting with an antique suits me.
Good luck to you.0 -
I can't imagine hunting with a silencer.
Don't suppose I ever will.0 -
Yep, good 'ole 30-30 with iron sights. You have to get close.
Got Guns?

I think he's talking about something to keep the saddle ring from clanking.

Yep, I guess Zipperzap missed that one, too subtle!
The silencer (Saddle Ring Noise Abatement System) is a leather thong wrapped around the saddle ring to prevent the metal to metal contact, therefore, no noise, until the SRC goes bang, hopefully.[8D]0 -
