Children Abducted and Killed By Strangers
Seem alot of fear these days about strangers abducting and killing children in America. Is it warranted ? Well sure it is if you are a parent. However, is it common ? I did some research and found how many people under 18 are kidnapped and killed by a stranger in America per year.....anyone care to guess ?

With that said, ONE is too many, but people worry about this sort of thing somewhat irrationally.
I'll bet out of all the active posters on here, we couldn't find 5 people who have genuine firsthand knowledge of someone they knew who was either assaulted/kidnapped/killed by a stranger.0 -

The daughter of a man I used to play poker with was kidnapped at our local walmart.0 -
At the risk of being callous, I'll hazard a guess.
I think that the number of people under 18 who are kidnapped and killed by a stranger (that was the original question) is probably on the order of one in 500,000.
Still, I'd hate to have to be a person who knows that one in (whatever) child. If you know that kid, it doesn't much matter if it's 1:1, 1:4, or 1:500,000. It's still a very, very ugly situation.

There are about 100 children kidnapped and killed by strangers each year in the U.S.
Many more than that are killed in car wrecks in their Mommy's van on trips to the mall.
These numbers have held more or less steady for the past ten or twenty years.
The stories of child kidnappings are sensationalized and get way too much media hype.
Some of y'all may remember the big campaign twenty years ago to find missing children, they were putting photos of kidnapped children on milk cartons.
They had the numbers of how many children were kidnapped annually. I lived in a county of 30,000, I did the figures on how many children, on average, would be kidnapped in my county to match up with the national average. It came out that there would be 2 children kidnapped annually in my county to fit the national statistics.
I knew for a fact that there had been zero kidnappings in my county in that time. I had been a Paramedic for the previous decade, and I would have been one of the people searching for a missing child.
That was when I knew that these cases are overdramatized, exaggerated, and lied about.
Also, a lot of the children that go into the "kidnapped" category are cases where a parent is a few hours late bringing his child back to the mother where the parents are divorced and the father had the kid for weekend visitation. The guy is five minutes late and Mom calls the FBI to report "kidnapping."0 -
allen...you are about to become a "whipping post" here....I hope you know. You should know by now that there is NEVER too much "hype" when it comes to children's safety. If you met my little freckle faced 11 yr old and spoke with her just for 5 minutes you would know just how aggrivated I am with your ideas. I won't hold it against you since you haven't had the chance (to meet her) but I can tell you that she makes agels seem meager and plain. 0 -

you are basically correct. america has averaged about 95 per year. the proper way to describe the publics feelings and thoughts on the matter is PARANOIA. are you removing all guns from your house if you have children there ? are you filling in your pool with dirt ? are you getting rid of the family dog ? have you decided to stop drinking around your kids ? have you decided to stop driving your kids or letting other people drive them anywhere ? have you taken the bicycle or skateboard away from your kids ?
if you believe in teh safety of your kids dont worry about kidnappings, worry about things that really do kill kids0 -
So what you are saying is that an accident is just like what this last group of sickos (husband, wife and son) did to that 6 year old boy? Yet you question the people that dont want this type of thing to happen to their kids...

So Al and Newt, are you suggesting that when a kid is raped and/or murdered we just ignore it because it doesn't happen very often?

God says thou shalt not kill, but I'm sure He'd make an exception for scumbags, perverts, and molesters of all stripes and I swear that if anyone ever did that to a kid I knew, I would send that SOB screaming to hell before I turned myself in to the cops to get my medal (or jail sentence, depending on how sympathetic the judge was). 0 -

I am saying that there are many more dangerous things for kids than kidnappings, even though kidnappings get most of the media play.
A kid has a much greater chance of being killed in a car wreck, for instance.
How someone could take a statement like this and twist it to try to say that I don't care about child kidnappings is quite beyond me.0 -
