Mike Vick Smuggles Pot onto Plane

MIAMI (AP) - Michael Vick reluctantly surrendered a water bottle to security at Miami International Airport that contained a residue "closely associated with marijuana." Police said Thursday that no charges immediately were filed.
The 26-year-old Atlanta Falcons quarterback entered an airport concourse Wednesday morning with the 20-ounce bottle. He eventually handed it over and boarded his flight to Atlanta. But his initial reluctance to turn over the bottle aroused suspicion among airport security screeners, a police report said.
Two Transportation Security Administration screeners recognized the 6-foot, 215-pound Vick.
The bottle was found to have a hidden compartment that contained "a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana," the report said. The compartment was hidden by the bottle's label so that it appeared to be a full bottle of water when held upright, police said.
Police said the bottle was sent to the Miami-Dade County crime lab for analysis. It could be weeks before any decision is made on whether to file charges, said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta.
"We'll do an analysis and see what it is. There's no sense of urgency to it," he said Thursday.
Under Florida law, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine. First offenders rarely do any jail time.
Vick did not immediately return a phone call early Thursday.
"We plan to look into the matter and discuss it with Michael Vick before having any further comment," Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts said.
Vick's younger brother, Marcus, is a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins. Michael Vick was the overall No. 1 draft pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. In 2006, Michael Vick passed for more than 2,400 yards and also topped 1,000 yards rushing.

WATER BOTTLE SAFE
This unit is basically 3 pieces. An upper bottle, center sleeve, and lower bottle, which is fit together by friction (tight fitting). Both bottles are filled separately so that when the bottle is tilted the bubble goes from top to bottom properly, as if it's one continuous unit. Even though it's transparent it's difficult to realize that anything' in it. And to add to the illusion, if you think you may be suspected you would simply start drinking from the bottle, to discourage any thoughts. Customers have also told me that wrapping your contents in a white tissue makes it nearly invisible.

You are on to something. He plays like he is high on pot.
I played NCAA college soccer. We had two or three guys who liked to smoke a joint before a game. Guess what? They made stupid mistakes. In those days, I smoked pot too, but I waited until after the game. I couldn't talk these guys out of playing stoned.
I have no problem with Vick smoking pot. Pot should be legal. I have a problem with people being stupid.
I got the scoop on this case last night. Sometimes at night I can pick up Atlanta talk radio on the am dial.
My earlier post is mistaken, the TSA doesn't inspect large drink containers, they make you throw them away.
Vick was trying to board with a fake Aquafina bottle. The TSA guard told him to throw it away. He refused to throw it away. The guard told him he could not board the plane with that bottle. At that point, Vick did throw it in the big container they have for such bottles. Vick went on to the plane.
The guard noticed something fishy about a guy refusing to throw away a water bottle, especially when there are large signs all over the airport that say you can't bring your big water bottle onto the plane.
The guard looked into the container, and it was empty except for the one bottle that Vick had just tossed in. He checked the bottle and found the pot. The guards played back the security tape and realized it was Mike Vick throwing away the fake Aquafina bottle.
This reminds me of my stoned soccer teamates, arguing with a federal guard about fifty cents worth of pot. Stupid.
What is worse, Mike Vick was boarding an Airtrans plane. This radio show said that Vick has an endorsement contract with Airtrans. He does ads for this airline that are played on the Atlanta market. The talk show host was saying that the ads are funny, because Vick sounds stupid on the ads. His speech is so bad that he can barely be understood.
I wonder if there is a morals clause in his contract, that if he is caught smuggling illegal drugs by federal officers onto an Airtrans flight, his endorsement contract will be cancelled.0 -

OK ... Who among us doesn't know that you can't carry a bottle of water through an airport security check? OK .. maybe if you've never flown on a commercial airliner, and you have no plans to do so in the future .. you might not know. That is if you don't read newspapers and don't have a radio or a TV. In other words ... If you were raised in a shack in the Everglades without electricity and no contact with the outside world you might not know you can't carry a bottle of water through an airport security check?
But what if you are a highly-paid, college "educated" nationally known NFL quarterback who is constantly jet-setting around the country? Then --- you know.
So, tell me then. Why would the aforesaid highly-paid, college "educated", nationally known NFL quarterback obtain a water bottle with a clever little compartment behind the label where one can hide stuff -- marijuana, for instance -- and then try to get it through an airport security check? Further --- why would you throw a fit when they tell you you have to throw the water away? The security screeners know that you can buy another bottle of water on the concourse ... so you don't think they're going to get suspicious when you act like they're trying to castrate you when they take your precious water?

One things for sure, an athlete can't possibly function at 100% with a buzz whether alcohol or drugs. His up and down onfield performance has them calling him a "coach killer". Vick is a long way from washed up, this is not a serious crime, and he will get a slap on the hand, which is all this merits. The question is, is this the tip of the iceberg? Is there a serious abuse problem that has affected his performance? He has the tools, we'll see what he does this season. 0 -
