My son plays it alot. He really likes it. It does teach a bit of strategy. I suggested he read The Art of War to become a better player and he read it! He now likes Battlefield 2060 or some similar date. Regards. 0 -
2142. That's another good game. I'd be better if the people on there actually utilized actual military tactics and command structure instead of everyone running and gunning. 0 -
I was more into Age of Empires. Although most RTS games are the same, just different graphics. 0 -

They're coming out with Starcraft 2.0 -

Oblivion is one of the best games I've played in quite a while. The part where you leave the Imperial sewers for the first time and enter into the unbelievably realistic outdoors - that is one of those moments of pure gaming nirvana.0 -
Heh, just an expression that I'd bet money. I wouldn't seriously expect to collect or give up money on a Starcraft game.
I will go dust it off and run a few practice rounds and go from there.0 -

I like Terran. They're a good overall balance of speedy buildup and powerful weapons, but the Protoss are my favorite. If you can survive long enough in a game, you can decimate everyone when the resources start running out.0 -
Mass Carriers = instant win.
I play Terran (not terrain) or Protoss
Btw, Starcraft 2 is being made expected to be released late 2008/early 2009 (some 10 years after the first)
It started boring me, so I started modding it.
Terran mechanical units got (weak) shielding, Protoss shield strength was increased, Zerg units even cheaper, other armor, range, firepower/rate of fire, damage type, resource and energy cost changes. Artillery and beyond visual range attacks became more important (for terran and protoss), capitals (battlecruiser/carriers) self repaired and could transport 8 units. Buildings could now get armor and firepower upgrades.
Terrans could use recall from the physics lab, zerg could produce medics and (very weakened) infested kerrigan units (renamed to infested ghosts) from infested command centers, etc.
Wasn't too balanced, I would always win with zerg with an early rush due to everything being so cheap. But late game (if allowed to get that long) the zerg were just slaughtered by terran and protoss firepower.0 -
i like to go all carriers early and smash people, though if i really want to play, ill play an NR5 game, and go all lings and smash! Any one wanna play right now? ill teach you how to stack!?! 0 -
Anyone play any other RTS games?
My favorites are the Homeworld series, and Warzone 2100 (not many people played warzone though).
Then there is the "old-school" Total Anihilation.
Homeworld's swarms put Zerg swarms to shame, a homeworld light interceptor cost 35 resource units, and had 110 armor/hitpoints. Whereas a heavy cruiser capital ship cost 3700 resource units (more than 100x as much) and had 90,000 hitpoints/armor.
Compare that to the cost difference between the smallest/cheapest starcraft unit and the strongest/most expensive. A battlecruiser is only 28 times as expensive as a zergling and only has 14 times the hitpoints.
The difference between a capital ship based strategy or a fighter swarm based strategy was far greater than the difference between a zerg swarm vs Protoss carrier fleet strategy in starcraft.
The thing I liked about warzone was the emphasis on artillery and holding portions of the map. Resources were inexhaustable, you had to capture and build structures on resource deposits, the more you held, the faster you gained resources. High tier artillery could fire upon a point halfway across the map, so by holding the center and building artillery emplacements, you could direct fire at any point on the map(depending on map size, sometimes from one corner to the other), it allowed your primary base to support expansion bases and vice versa, or to support an assault on enemy bases by using spotting units for artillery. There were special sensors that could track incoming shells and tell where they were coming from, so enemy artillery could retaliate on your artillery if your shells fell within that sensor range.
Then of course you had thousands of possible units (by selecting different combinations of weapons, chassis, and propulsion types) from VToL strike fighers/bombers, heavy tracked tanks, expensive and fast amphibious hover tanks, cheap and fast armored+wheeled tanks, cyborg infantry, and their airborne transports/gunships, all armed with weapons ranging from conventional machine guns, cannons, flamethrowers/napalm, missiles/rockets, to futuristic laser, gauss, and plasma weaponry0 -
