    OK. Here's the deal.

    Some of the SA85s were imported with standard length gas pistons.

    Some were imported with shorter gas tubes and AMD65 length gas pistons. The handguards are the same as most euro/russ etc...AKs.

    I have no idea why. they all work the same. Like an AK.

    So, if you're going to "restore it's testes" and remove that goofy bumhole stock and need to source a US piston, just use an AMD65 one.

    However, my choices are a buttstock and reproduction "I" pistol grip from Ironwood Designs in San Jose, CA (Matt is a great guy) who can match the steamed beech, make a grooved butt and an perfect I grip for you for less than 80 bucks. Granted they come raw and need a few coats of tung oil and maybe a bit of rubbing with 0000 steel wool to polish it up to the level of the handguards.

    that'll be two. install a Tapco G1 hammer/trigger/sear and you've got enough parts, unless you want to thread the muzzle and restore the slant comp. Then you'd need a US slant comp and you'd still be good.
