Question for knife geeks ...

Somebody asked me to check out this question on some of the
boards I frequent - since I'm lacking the 'knife gene' I'm leaving
for the knife experts here.

Here's what he's looking for - a quality folder in the 3"+ range.

Here's where it gets tricky:

He also want a spring assist and the ability to have the clip positioned
for left handed, tip up carry.

Does anyone know of such a beast?

    I'd check out the Benchmade line. They have quite a few assisted opening models.

    I'm left-handed and carry a Kershaw "Blur". It's spring-assisted and has a reversible pocket clip.

    The Ken Onion designed whirlwind is my favorite knife. Lifetime warranty on the torson bar(assist opening mechanism). Holds an edge like you wouldn't believe.

    There are some knives built by CRKT(Columbia River Knife and Tool) that aren't assist opening, but open very easily with one finger.

    Not to brag, but both those companies are headquartered in Orygun.

    Know why??

    Because there are no distractions - the women(GB members' wives excluded) are ugly, the weather is rotten, and there is nothing to do for fun.

    So, all the guys that work there just concentrate on doing their jobs.


    Oh, yeah - Gerber is here too, as well as Leatherman.

    S.O.G. has some interesting spring assisted models. I do not know if they offer a left hand model, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

    I agree with Doug, Benchmade and Gerber make some of the best knives and offer about anything you could ever want. They aren't cheap either.

    I try to find a SOG. They are great knives and very rugged.

    I'd look into anything Spyderco with Emerson wave, looks like this:

    Good quality knife at fraction of a cost of real Emerson.

    Kershaw Onion line as mentioned above. The "Scallion" I carry has all the attributes you listed. They stock them at Wally World. Go check one out there and buy it some place else!

    They come without the serrated edge should you prefer otherwise.

    Don't forget that CRKT is in Orygun as well. I would look a the Benchmade knives though.
