What are the advantages of Firefox???
OK...I just installed Firefox. What are the advantages of ff over IE??? From what I can tell, it seems to have less features than IE. I have two other problems with it...one of them is a major problem! The first problem is that the browser window does not fit my computer screen and if I maximize it, the web pages are still the smaller size inside the larger window. The second problem is one that I will NOT be able to live with. It will not let me access the GB forums. The GB auction page will load fine, but the forum pages will not come up.?.? Anyone have any input????

I am on Firefox and I have access to all GB stuff, don't know what your problem is.
The window fits my screen fine.
The reason I use Firefox, and that I ditched IE, is that I was getting all kinds of bugs from IE.
I don't get bugs and ad crap on Firefox.0 -
Same here. I don't have any problems with the forums. Pages are fine.
The main advantage is most web based viruses/spyware is IE based, and won't download through Firefox.0 -
I use Fire Fox and it works great for me. Took a little while to get used it though. 0 -
1) Firefox is a freeware product. This puts pressure on the likes of Microsoft and makes the software market better for consumers.
2) Not sure what the problem is with your screen size....mine has never been a problem.
3) Did you install Noscript with Firefox? if so, when you get to the gunbroker screen, you need to right-click, scroll down to Noscript and allow Gunbroker.com. You'll need to do this for every web site you use that employs Java scripts. It's a bit of PITA for a while, but it also means that when you click on a random link to a site that might have malware, they won't be able to run apps on your computer without your express consent.
4) I still haven't figured out how to get Firefox to work with Yahoo's card games....so I keep IE around for that purpose, and just in case I find another site Firefox wont load.0 -
I have both IE 7 and Firefox 2. I prefer the Firefox ... try this review ...

This is a big part of it. It's a symbolic "thumb in the eye" aimed at Bill Gates, and Linux doesn't work as well on a PC as it does on a Mac.0 -
I gave up on IE years ago, Firefox has crashed maybe 4 times to IE's 30 for me. 0 -
Same here I have both! change you monitor resolution size and see if that helps, If you like to download movies, streaming vids or cam stuff you just get the addons for ff and you can save any vids. 0 -
I tried it but it seemed to lag my machine too badly...but most everything does anyway.[;)] 0 -
That is interesting, spryor.
Everything else lags my machine. Loading photos from my camera, or running an anti virus program, bog my computer down so badly, I have to do without.
But Firefox didn't faze it.
Go figure, I could write quite a long book on everything I don't know about computers.0 -
I switched to Firefox from IE7 based on the suggestions of GB members.
Perhaps you need to do a thorough virus scan, and re-install Firefox.
I have had not one significant problem with it since the day I installed it.
I also kept IE7, just in case.
Good luck.

I use Safari [:D]
I do have Fire Fox too. Every once in a while I find something that Safari won't open right but that happens very seldom now. The big reason I use it is for my other email account and Ebay stuff. I use Safari for my normal stuff and it keep my mail logged into my normal account. I keep my other account logged in on Fire Fox and run all my Ebay stuff through there to keep from having to log things in and out.0 -

First of all, I have been reading and posting and buying on GB for years using Firefox with no problems (including this post right now).
You can adjust the size of the window by grabbing a corner with your mouse and dragging it out. Also, you can adjust the font size of displayed text using Firefox by pressing the shift key and rolling the mouse wheel, a very useful feature.
IE7 copied Firefox's (and Opera's) tabbed browser, and not the other way around.
Firefox has SO many possible addons, (including several good ad-blockers) that your head will spin. Dowloaders, weather-checkers, ad-blockers, Ebay attachments, software attachments, etc. IE can't even come close.
Advantages to Firefox are many. including the ability to customize far easier and thoroughly than IE7.0 -
If I may hijack the thread:
When I downloaded Firefox, I deleted IE. This made my computer run a lot faster.
So, I now have only one browser.
Is this a bad idea? Should you have two browsers?0 -
I don't recommend deleting IE from your system. There are a lot of websites out there that do not support Firefox. You're going to find that if you delete IE, you're going to run up on pages that you won't be able to view. If that's not important to you, well, fine. Suit yourself.
I do use Firefox as my primary browser. It is a far more secure browser. And, if you check around, Firefox is a far more rich program than IE. You just have to install helpers which can be found on the Firefox home page.
Many computer 'experts' out there (Kim Kommando seems to lead the pack) tell you flat out not to use IE because it is full of security holes. IMO, if you run updated firewalls, antivirus and antispyware programs, you could surf with any program you want and still be okay.
It is the phishing sites that will get you... and Firefox has a phishing alert on it.0 -
You have other issues - it ain't firefox.... 0 -
I had the second problem with ie. that is why i went to firefox 0 -
I tried it but many of the website I have to use for work do not work with firefox. I didnt have a problem with it loading GB though. 0 -
I use Firefox on my computers and Opera on my phone. They both work great. IE is a sieve... 0
