man why do cats bite hurt so frikken bad. i had to give my dog and two cats they bi-weekly flea bath. man the dog and one cat took it fairly good but the other cat went freakin crazy. this cat is the most mellow cat there is nice and friendly to every one until it comes to bath time. holy s@#t that cat messed up my arm good. latch on to it with four sets of claws and its teeth. wasn't expecting it. cat usually is pretty good about baths but this time he wasn't having it. the claw marks don't hurt anymore but the bite marks hurt like crazy. arms thumping and its all swollen around the bite mark. anything i can do for this.
    Dont bathe cats.

Going to the doctor for treatment might be a good idea, especially if the bite area is throbbing!

Blood poisoning is a real possibility. See a doctor ASAP.

    hk-91...

First and most improtant...see your dr....there is a good chance you have infection and will need to be on antibiotics....My boss (yeppers, he shows cats) has to go on antibiotics every time he gets bit....EVERY TIME!!!!...

    Second...

Some tips for bathing the cats....first, do it in the tub, where you have a bigger area to work with...

Put a towel in the bottom, flat out...This way the cats have a place to put their claws instead of in your arms....they cant grab the tub or sink and it scares them, but they can grab the towel...

This is probably the most important...SCRUFF the cat until it gets used to being bathed....that way it cant turn its head to bite and it actually will calm the cat....

    Again...SEE YOUR Dr.....

I always put my cat in the toilet. Close the lid real quick and after two flushes they come out clean as a whistle. [:D]

JUST KIDDING! Would not ever harm an animal intentionally, and actually kinda like cats.

my cat had to go get antibiotics when he got into a scuffle with a neighbor's cat.
He doesn't bite my family but sure doesn't like other cats.

I think its a bacteria in their mounths.
Apply topical antibiotic and go see the doc

I squirt dishwashing liquid on mine put it in a potato sack and throw them in the tank. Dunk them four or five times like a tea bag to rinse, then let them loose. They run so fast they air dry.

Black roses said it. Grab the cat by the scruff of the neck. It shows them who's boss.

I hate cats ,So you probly dont want to hear my 1st choice of what I would suggest doing. However,My 2nd choice would be to get some Advantix if mosquitos are a problem. If not,Try Advantage. We live in the country and have found that both work well.Once a month is all it takes. The amount they sell you for a big dog is double that of a small dog,But it costs the same.So you can treat at least two dogs if you split the dose. Not sure if the cat stuff works the same.

Advantage or Frontline etc is not always accepted by the pet,..in other words they react to it...Some with a burning rash, others and yes this has happened to a couple of yorkies, will end up bleeding internally, and a couple of cats have died from it...Regardless of the reason, sometimes the best thing to do is bathe the pet...

Contrary to belief, most cats like water...Bengals are noted for playing in water...Both mine enjoy a bath and will ask for it...A house cat should be bathed from the time its a kitten to get used to it...the reason they fight it is because they have nothing to grab onto to....the tub, sink or whatever does not lend well to claws,..they have not traction, and are scared...

Pets do bite their owners if the owners are jack as**S...and they freakin deserve it..

If the area around the bite is swelling, you really need to go see your doctor. Cats have a large number of types of bacteria in their mouth. They can cause anything to minor infections to serious blood infections! I know this from experience....I was once brushing our "step-cat" (it lived outside, not in the house with our others), and she bit me in the top of my hand. Within minutes, my hand was the size of a softball and VERY painful. Spent two days in the hospital with a pierced tendon in my hand as well as a bacterial infection. GO SEE A DOC!!!

Any pet that bit a person would be gone in my house.

The neighbors cat got ran over last night. It laid in front of our house until about an hour ago when I picked it up and threw it in their garbage can. Just more evidence that people who let their cats run off their property should be locked up.

Why don't you get flea powder?

Throbbing and redness indicates a possible infection. Usually a tetnus shot is recommended after a cat bite. Why did you bath a cat? Should not be necessary unless it got into something. Next time, see your vet about a pre-bath tranquilizer.[^] Get some for yourself too.[}:)]

Although I love our cat Wiley, I'd snap his neck without a second of hesitation if he intentionally bit me, or anyone else. Pets aren't suppose to bite their owner and if they do, there is something very wrong with the pet or the owner (or both). The exception to that is if the animal is sick, or injured and at that point, it simply doesn't know better. I don't think bathing a cat is a good practice, or even necessary (unless it is a show animal and I have opinions about people that "show" their pets too). We've had several cats and never dreamed of bathing any of them for any reason. Flea products like Advantage work well and it's common knowledge that most cats hate getting wet. I'm sorry you were injured, but being bitten because you bathed it won't get much sympathy from me. Sorry, it just doesn't strike me as a very intelligent decision to bathe a cat. [;)]

Unless it is in Gasoline near a fire. [;)][}:)][:0][;)]

You'd do well to go see a docotr or other health care proffessional about those bites.

I've never bathed a cat and never intend to. If you have a flea problem there are a few much better ways to deal with them than a bath. My wife used to work for a vet, she says that "Front Line Plus" is the way to go. Get it from the vet. Its a liquid and you apply it on the back of the cat's (or dog's) neck where they can't reach. Its absorbed through their skin and kills fleas and ticks. Quick easy and painless for everybody. Works for a few weeks or months.

i'll have to try front line. i have tried the others and they just dont seam to work on my pets. dog does ok with advantage but it only works for about two weeks and you cant apply it again for a month. i tried some other form of the liquid on the cats awhile ago and they still had flea's the only thing that seam to work with them is bathing
them every other week. as for the cat biting me i you cant punish a cat for biting while getting a bath. now these animals are use to getting baths and usually are never that bad. get a little mad hiss a few times but this was the first time one of them bite me.

might have to try the flea comb. all my animals are indoor animals. dog included. but she does like to go out for a walk and love to run in the back yard for a couple of hours a day. other then that she's in the house playing with the son. the cats are indoors all the time. never had a problem for years. but the dog ended up getting them somehow and gave them to the cats.

You may still see the fleas on them after you have applied the meds. The fleas only die after they have feed on the animal. and it may take a little time to get into their blood stream. Not sure about cats but you can reapply sooner than every month. When I am taking my dog to tick country I hit him every 2 weeks with frontline.

My dad came within hours of losing his arm due to a cat bite. They can be very serious.

Snatch the cat by the neck and punch it in the face next time it bites you.

Skin the cat first. Easy as pie to clean after that

Just squirt some baby shampoo on her and throw her out in the rain.

Never bathed my cat. Never needed to. But if she did, I think I would take a pass. Like giving her pills, some services are just worth paying for.

    I cant believe you guys......

I give pills to cats every day, its no bid deal...sruff, open mouth, pop pill in, close mouth, rub throat, give cat kiss on nose, and let go...and yes, even my big bengals get a pill that way...
