If you want good wheel bearings, you take the bearing to your local bearing supply store and get some timkins, then you don't have a problem.

Or go to the parts counter at the franchised dealership.

Brass rod, socket, dowel, the appropiate size and a big hammer! If it's been driven a while and probably has scored the hub. Pick yard the entire knuckle/rotor. Then get it lined up.

Had to do this on a Toyota. The shop said it was "labor intensive" to replace a $29.95 bearing and quoted me almost $800 to do the job. Took me about 4 hrs in the driveway with breaks and without the tools they had available.

shoff14 is right about a bearing supply house. They also will most likely be way less expensive than than the dealer. (the guy at the parts counter will probably be able to pull what you need by looking at the old bearing)

    Shoff...
No bearing supply house for 100 miles, kinda hard to get there when the car is tore all apart.[V]

    Mini....

The Parts counter guy was an idiot, he definatly had never worked on an older vehicle. He had never seen parts like the ones that i took in to him. the numbers were useless. all the new computer software, part ref. material only shows these new fancy bastids. the new repair manuals dont even tell you how to do it yourself it says "take to nearest service center"

The Hub is ok, i had pulled them to repack the bearings. I didn't want to be doing it in the -20 deg weather later on this winter. I
notice that the teflon bearing cage was a bit worn. so i was going to replace the one bearing and the inner race.

which i can't so this new fancey bearing has made a 1hr job turn into a 4 dayer.[:(!]

I don't think it much matters what brand of car you buy anymore they all suck, they have supposedly been engirneered not to wear out. and if they do they are made so that you cant fix'em yourself and they end up right back where they came from to be repaired.

    NSK 41KW00 bearing number

no numbers on the races that i can see, they are still in, i will run a hot pass out of the welder around them. the weld should shrink them right up and they should fall right out. I hope, this has worked for me before on a forklift hub that i had to replace bearings and races.

I have the new fancy bearing in the freezer and the hub sitting out in the sun on a piece of plate steel. after i get the races out i hope the bearing drops right in. we will see.

Makes you wonder why they changed them from the older seperate bearings and races, which a monkey could fix. And made them into one new unmaintainable and very exspensive part?[xx(]

The aftermarket is just following the lead set by the manufacturer. Only way to get the bearings is if they aren't some special one-off item, and you've got a good industrial supply house within driving distance.
