Federal 22lr
Worst ammo I have ever put through my little 22semi auto, every other round jams like clockwork, it fails to clear the chamber and blocks the block from closing, sure they're cheap, and fire great, but its a pain to clear a jam after every 1 or 2 shots... sorry just something that annoyed me today at the range... and oh yeah, fired 12ga deer slugs for the first time... Holy CRAP that thing kicks, my shoulder is gonna be sore tomorrow, I just know it... lol

What gun were you using. I'm going to guess Marlin md 60
Federal bulk ammo does suck. Try to get any kind of grouping with them and you grow to dislike them even more.
For the same money get Winchesters.0 -
Nope, a Mossberg 702, I was trying to sight my scope in for 100 yards, but after aiming at the target, one shot hitting 5 ft below, and another like 2 ft above, I figured it was hopeless, its sad to say, but my LVE Surok at $0.49 a box are better rounds, lol 0 -
I shot a truck load of the Federal bulk ammo over the years...It is dirty, but shoots well in my 10/22....I remember years ago shooting slugs for the first time also. Not a pleasant experience till you get used to it. 0 -
i will agree also.(on cheep rounds)
but i just went through about 300 rounds and this batch did good, i did here 1 that was almost a dud but it ejected OK and this was with a rem 522 known to jam.
my MKII does not like them,[xx(]
the bolt action BSA target did good, for now 1 3/4in @ 40yd, going to stretch it out some next time0 -
I shoot tons of that stuff through my Mod. 60 without a single problem besides the occasional dud. But for $9.88 for 550 rounds I can afford to toss one every once in a while. I'm not trying to win any shootin matches or anything with it, just general plinkin and small furry animal killin. 0 -

Huh, I have never had a problem with them. Guess I'm just lucky. Always shot great out of 10/22 unless it got real dirty them it would jam on occasion. Heck, I never even had one jam in my 522 either. Never had larger than .5" groups @ 50yds out of any of my 22s with it and can't recall a single dud. Heck and I have shot alot of them too. One summer here a few years ago my cousin Jeff and I went through 2 boxes a day for like 3 weeks. I bet we shot more than 20,000 rds a piece in that time.
Remington were the ones I always had problems in the bulk packs. So dirty it wasn't even funny, had to clean my autoloaders about every 300rds to keep them from jamming.
But Winchesters are the best! That is without buying Match.0 -
Yeah. I've got a two year old box of Federal's from Wal-Mart around here. You can HEAR the difference from one round to the next. Maybe 2/10 rounds just sounded like a "dud".
Remington's have been OK to me.0 -

I've shot many different brands through my T/C Encore .22LR barrel with scope, and find a tremendous difference between brands, especially when sighting a scope in.
Some brands (in this gun) shoot a pretty good group, five inches below, or three inches to the left, whatever, and others center a sloppy group right on the bull's eye. After shooting lots of dollar's worth through the gun, it naturally ended up shooting best the higher priced ($4.37) CCI Hyper-velocity ammo. Drat it!
But all is not lost with all my Federal and Winchester ammo lying around.
Whenever I have one of those impromptu range days and plinking parties at my place, and friends of my kids and so forth come over and join in....as the load-master and ammo dispenser, I insure they get the sloppy ammo, while I unobtrusively load only my secret stash of CCI good stuff into my gun.
So, I'm the best shot around, with scores that make theirs look really sad.
After all, life isn't fair, why should casual shooting competitions be?

every 22 likes to shoot different ammo and the only way to find out what your gun likes is to try everything. I must have 20 different types of 22 laying around just to ind what my guns like to shoot. While not the best in all of my 22's, the most consistant in all of my guns is Wolf Match Extra, that stuff is really good. 0 -

I shoot alot of em out of my BuckMark pistol with no problems [8)]
When I heard all the talk about ammo $$$ going up I stocked up on Federal 550 bulk pk's . Got 550 for $9.98 , bought 20 boxes [:o)]

IMO you gotta be carefull blaming the ammo unless you've had bad experiences on several occasions w/different guns. Some guns just don't "like" some brands of ammo.
Federal bulk is no target ammo. But niether is it intended to be.
It's cheap small game hunting and plinking fodder. And of all the cheapo ammo brands, IMO the most reliable.0 -
My 50 year old single shot Winchester shoots whatever I put in it 0 -
I just hit the range again today. Took the old Marlin Model 60 and a $9.88 box of Fed. ammo from wally world. Every round went bang, the all sounded the same through my ear plugs, no jams, failures to extract, feed, or cycle. And pretty accurate too, here is what I did with it at 30yds with open sights, using my gun case as a rest.
My targets are the shoot n see ones. The holes and markings on the cardboard are from someone else.
The bottom 5 holes in this pic are from my .223 so they don't count as part of the group [:p]

I've had the same rotten luck with bulk Federal .22lr also. Either the rounds fail to fire or I don't see consistent accuracy from a rest. I use Federal in almost all of my other guns though, with no problems. 0 -
My Mk II will not cycle them at all 0
