question for you old business guys
whats the best way to find a good wholesale distributor,As I have stated in here before we own and my wife runs a small used paperback book store,I say small she has around 25,000 books in inventory,,she still has 1/2 her building open,we have been thinking of opening a rebel/southern store selling confederate/southern type items,I searched the internet and found a place for caps,I found another place I think I can do t-shirt business with but I still need places for things like quilts and trinkets like jewlery,I do not want to do a franchise like Dixie Outfitters,,,any ideas ??

You have the best tool right in front of you. Never contact a distributor first. Contact the factory. Some will direct you to a close distributor, but some others will sell to you direct if you can prove (via a business licence) that you operate a retail outlet.
Search what you are looking for, ie, Southern Heritage, Confederate Hats, etc.
Find a similar store aways away and let them know up front you are not competition. Ask them who they buy from. Business is not rocket science, believe me.0 -
Thanks skyKing, Thats what I have found on the caps, shocked me just how inexpensive I can buy them , the guys with the t-shirts do both, they make their own brand name and distribute 3 of the national franchise names like Dixie Darlins ,the only problem with them is since this will be a new start up business "I can run it off off the bookstores business/salestax licence" they do not want to give me the best pricing ,they are telling me after 12 months it will go down 8%,,I want the 8% now if I buy in case quanities and pay cash so we are negotiating it.. 0
