Look what these kids found

(Charleston) - It's not unusual for kids to find things while playing in their backyard but how about a missile?
Little Courtney and Matthew simply playing in their backyard when they see something. "I thought it was a rocket", said Matthew. Like any curious kids they pick it up. "It was too heavy", said Courtney. When asked what did they do to carry it, Courtney said, "drag it."
It was quite a surprise for their mom Lisa Wishman. "It did look like a missile to me but I didn't think it was anything to be concerned about because how often do you find a missile in your backyard", said Wishman.
Concerned, Wishman called her neighbor Paul Krakeel. "It looked to me like a piece of military ordinance", said Krakeel. Whatever it was, Krakeel knew he didn't want it close to his house, carefully moving it to the sidewalk across the street. "I got on the phone and called my spouse and said we need to call the fire department and the police and the bomb squad."
Officials tell us it's an inactive military round. According to Krakeel, "they said it was a practice bomb, a military type device. It was more of a flare type bomb."
The discovery itself though, was causing quite a stir in this otherwise quiet neighborhood. Wishman said, "it's still surprising to me because you don't expect to find anything like that just laying around." Krakeel said, "it's kind of an explosive event, forgive the pun."

The media doesn't know jack s#it...that wasn't a missile. Didn't even resemble any missile in the US arsenal. Looks like a free-fall bomb or an oversized mortar, not a missile. 0 -
It looks like a BDU-33 which is a practice bomb. No explosives. We use them on our F-16's for training. I'd hate to have one hit me though. ouch. 0 -

It's a Mk 76 practice bomb. Weighs about 25 pounds and is used to simulate low drag, non-retarded Mk 80 series HE gravity bombs.
The author of the article also needs to learn how to spell ORDNANCE.[:0][;)]
Ordnance is explosive and blows people up.
Ordinance just pisses people off and makes them pay fines.0 -

Ok, what hole have these folks been living in? With all the news reports about unexploded ordinances and mines you would think they would leave it alone and automatically call the police or fire department. But noooo. They are concerned so they move it across the street and then a committee debates about calling someone who might have a clue about what it is these kids found. How stupid is that?0 -

Yep.
I think it was 1999, and I was in Phoenix AZ. with the F-18 Hornet squadron that I was attatched too. Anyway one of the jets tried to drop one, and he believed it dropped. The weapons rack released but the MK76 became "hung" the pilot thought that it was a dud, and headed back to Luke Air Force Base. The MK76 fell off the jet on the way back and landed in a parking lot full of Garbage trucks. Pretty funny.0
