A nice weekend on Keuka Lake ...

I made the drive to one of the Finger Lakes this weekend. We stayed in Hammondsport.

It was pretty empty; the town, not the lake. The water was 72 degrees or so.

Rural western NY at a very fine time of year. Would that be "Upstate", or "Western-Central"?

Fresh corn and tomatoes, no traffic [if so inclined to drive anywhere], a decent diner called "Mom's", and low-key people.

Just not long enough!

    Anything north of Westchester County is "Upstate"

    What would a decent room with kitchenette cost for a couple of weeks in your faire town [Jan/'09]? My wife wants The Big Island, but me bones don't want the 13 hour flight.

    yup most of the state is upstate. and when ever you tell someone you live in NY they always think OH THE BIG CITY. i am in the Utica/Rome area (1/2 hour east of Syracuse) and we either call it the Valley or Central NY.

    Keuka is a nice area, for our camping we ususaly head north into the Adirondacks (old forge) this is the start of my favorite season. lots of harvest going on as mentioned and fall is my favorite weather not to mention the start of many hunting seasons

    Went Deer hunting years ago at Ancram in Columbia Co. Nice country and crawling with deer. Heard just about everything is posted "no hunting" now. [:(]
