Both of my brothers are in Afghanistan.
My younger brother is in the Army and my older brother is a D.O.D. employee.

Even though he is a civilian it is not exactly a walk in off the street position.

What sort of skills do you have that aren't marketable in the U.S. but are in Afghansistan? I would seriously advise looking into changing your lifestyle here before I would suggest to ANYONE looking for work over there to make some extra money. This is America, anyone can buy a house. Maybe you need to be realistic about the location and the type of house but if you want a house you can buy a house without spending a year in a war zone. If you think Afghanistan is "safe", let me assure you, you are wrong. If you think you would have regular communication with friends and family over here you are wrong. It's a little insulting that you consider that lifestyle change to make a quick buck, you will find that the civilians over there are there because they believe in the fight against the war on terrorism. You're not going to get rich by spending a year or even two years there.

Here are a few companies I personally know of that have civilians employed over there:

First off BlackwaterUSA is not a top notch employer to work for!! In Iraq they escort Iraqi convoys and get shot up daily and the burnout rate is outrageous. I've seen many of these Blackwater guys in action and it is a joke and if I had to run a convoy with them I would be on the next airplane heading home!!!!

Haliburtons main contracts are with KBR and KBR is downsizing alot of the nonessentail positions for Americans and replaing them with middleeastern employees as well as tons of Phillipinos. Even the truckdriving positions are being taken by TCNs and not Americans.

Afghanistan is hard to get to with KBR, 99% of newhires go to Iraq and even though I have almost 1.5 years with KBR I cannot get to Afghanistan yet.

Those who claim "you are crazy" wanting to go there to work, let them feel that way. I am proud as hell to have been able to work alongside the US Military and I cherish the memories I have. I have a newfound respect for the US military and my thoughts on the Iraq war differ now from mainstream America and my temper gets the best of me when I see or hear the bullcrap being talked about today, even the antiwar posts on this board makes me want to get in someones face and scream because the antis have not one clue as to what they are talking about.

In all seriousness if you realy want to go Iraq is the best place to start depending on your skills. I have a new website right now that is slow as molasses in getting started but in time I hope it gets going but if you want email me at redneck1314-at-hotmail.com for the link and I hope any questions you ask can be answered there. KBR is the place to start unless you have college degrees and contacts with the DOD and I can help get you started as well as some of the members on my site.

My vacation is just about over and as soon as the Army sends KBR the requisitions I will be going back over. Don't listen to the panicked "you're friggin crazy" ro any of that other BS, unless you are a convoy truckdriver like I am your chances of getting whacked are slim to none, even with the mortar attacks that happen all the time. Infact I do no recall one KBR death on base, all of them have been outside the wire in convoys or other missions that require KBR to be outside the wire.

Again BlackwaterUSA is full of commandos who are playing war, they recruit people with mentalities like Bullzeye and these goofballs get into more trouble in one day than any KBR can dream of in a year. Also for the money you need to go to Iraq or Afghanistan, a job is Kuwait is about $30K less a year as is the other countries you can end up in.

Email me if you wish redneck1314-at-hotmail.com and get real facts from someone who has been there.

    Marry a rich man.

I was married to a rich man. Rather than subject myself to his philandering I ended the marriage. I didn't even ask for alimony. In hind sight that was probably not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I got my soul back and for that I am very thankful.

It's insulting to me that you assume to know me and my motives and my situation. I currently work in a job that contributes little to anyone. Yes I want better pay, but I also want to make a contribution and Afghanistan is just such a place. No matter what I would be doing over there I know it would be making it better. I could stay here and keep doing the same old same old and in the end not have a sense of having done something anything worthwhile with my life. I want to come to the end of my life and feel proud that in some small part I made a difference.

This is something that I have thought about for over a year. I don't want to jump in uninformed, hence my research.
