Good rifles wear a Nightforce NXS.[:D] Great rifle,..ditch the scope ASAP. That's blasphemy on a nice M1a. I'll GARANTEE the scope is the weak link. Rolling block actions such as that, DESTROY cheap scopes. Had a cheap scope on a mini 14, and it trashed it in less than 200rnds.

Nice rig,...but entry weapon status IMHO is an AR15 or HK MP5's job. I'd sell the close range stuff and make it a long range BATTLE rifle rather than an entry gun. YMMV and to each his own. I still have an M21 on my list of "got to have's".

conversational distance is better served by a 12ga with 000buck and extreme prejudice.[}:)]

You don't always have a 12 ga shotgun, and the military uses 00 buck. Most US Military units don't have MP5s at all. And if I had a choice between an M4/M16 and this M1A (no other options) I'd take the M1A any day of the week and twice on Thursday. The bigger the slug you put into your enemy within rock throwing range, the less the chances of said enemy getting back onto their feet when you're ready to leave the room.

I read in American Rifleman how accurate those Socoms were(n't). Post up some 200 yd groups for us. If I were spending $2800 on an M1A it would be a new right out of the box SuperMatch
I was wondering about that too, how the SOCOM stacks up against a National Match or Super Match. which trigger does it have? plus, the Super Match has 2 lugs attaching to the receiver, how about the SOCOM? I could look up the specs myself, but I'm too lazy, I figured I'd let Zulu7 tell us what it's got. how about it Zulu?

me too, but i apparently can't find a range report past 50 yards, i as zulu like the socom for what it is, but i have decided that it is a little much for a cqb weapon unless you have about 4 bad guys in a strait line, i'm going for the 22" barrel

nice set up there zulu, you have something to be proud of, now you need to master it, it's like buying a lamborghini sure you can drive/shoot it, but it will take a long time to utilize its full potential

No disrespect to your service obviously[8D] I was looking at it from a US gorund situation and not limiting my choices to NATO availability. IF we were to ever be full on assaulted, by multiple countries, (which I don't see happening), I would want a weapon for my surroundings. Country means long range and "brush" close. City means 100yds max with close quarters situations,...so I want fast, maneuverable, and light with low recoil. I WILL own an M21 or even an M25,..but FOR MY TASTE, I will leave them as LR rifles. For up close, I am still thinking lighter and less recoil than a .308. JMHO

and to this day,..at 50yds, nothing beats a 12ga with 00 or 000 buck. Precise aim gets trumped by shear number of projectiles in the air. We walk a marsh every year for Sika deer,..and from 1000's of rounds of buckshot,..I can honestly say there is no more lethal and forgiving, close quraters, round. Even if your lead is off,..you still hammer them down with the "stray" pellets. [;)]
