Armed Forces Retirement Homes
Well, now just "Home.." The Naval one in Mississippi was destroyed by Katrina. However, it will return.
The homes seem not to be very well known, and I thought someone here besides me might be interested.
I've promised my mom, who is in her 90's, that I'll stay here while she's still aware of me and give her a chance to get to know me. Promise was made six years ago.. Smile
However, soon, I'm moving into the Washington home.. My kids live in that area. I can see them frequently instead of once a year.
There is a problem..They don't allow guns of any kind. Yeah, I know, many of our military careers were based on guns and they should trust us. As far as I know, they do, but it's in DC, remember..
My plan is to establish a residence there while I'm mobile, then when I'm disabled and need long time care, they will continue to put up with me without taking all my assets. I don't remember the exact numbers, but they take your military pension or around $1200 per month whichever is lowest, and every thing else you have is yours.
I also plan to keep my residence here. It's paid for, and I can still have my guns and hunting anytime I want to come home and stay as long as I like. So, up there in the summer..Good fishing there..Down here for the hunting season. I have a lifetime hunting license, can't waste that!
That's me ole plan. Anyone with thoughts or suggestions? I'll be pleased to hear them.

Oh..If you're married, both have to be qualified individually, so it won't work fer most of you old married birds...

Sounds like a good plan, I remember reading about the one in Mississippi prior to the hurricane. I hope you enjoy it and are treated well. 0
