Drug Warning: Ultram (tramadol)
I was prescribed ultram (tramadol) for an old shoulder injury that has been bothering me. I have taken it for about a month and noticed that I get alot more done after I took it, and it gives me a euphoric feeling. I ran out 2 days ago and have felt like pure hell ever since. Then I googled it and Im not alone. Wow, this stuff is highly addictive with withdrawal lasting a month and longer. Dont take this stuff if you can avoid it. I have had night sweats and flu symptoms since I ran out, and apparently Im not alone. The pain you go thru getting off this junk is worse than the initial pain.

Did it. The Chinese have more experience with accupunture than any other human race. We have a Chinese accupunture specialist here from China.
Will do something for those with minor injuries but nothing for those with serious nerve impengement/damage requiring surgery.0 -
Ain't never tried acupuncture, but Dawnie has. She said it worked pretty well. I would just as soon have a practitioner wave a rattle over me and kill a chicken. 0 -

my cousin take fentanyl patches, they stated him out on 25, now he is on 175, when these wear off he goes thru some chills, hot flashes, then chills, shaking, sweating bullets.
the va is suppose to supply him every 30 days, they fall behind.
boy it gets downright unbearable. they were going to put the morphine pump in him, he told them no. not enough no pain relive, too much your kidneys shut down, he has a friend that had the pump put inside him, the doctors told him, that the amount of drugs that would be used would be smaller, so he would not feel so bad. his friend told him that was a load of crap, says he feels bad, he wont take the chance of driving. so he ends up 5 days of 7 on the couch.0 -

Acupuncture and other modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine are the form of primary care medicine practiced by millions upon millions of people around the world.0 -
i used tramalod(sp?) for a while on a needed basis. i had surgery on my back about 10 years ago and they fixed the problem but there is muscle damage that will never go away. anytime i over work it(too much heavy lifting or even a round of golf) it acts up and usually is bearable and when i push my self to far it can put me right down for a day. i was given this med over others as my Doctor told me that is was non-drozy(sp?) and given to alot of truck drivers. it worked pretty good and i never had withdrawels but it always bothered my stomach. now a days i just use advil or ibprofen(sp?) (ya i suck at spelling) when needed. don't need a doctors prescription and i can buy a big bottle for cheap. i have small bottles i refill and keep everywhere, at work, in the truck, in my golf bag, in my hunting bag, and at home. i'll go days without a problem and then wam the pain is there. at 27 years old this sucks and i can't imagine what its going to be like when i get older. oh well poop happens 0 -
This thread has been fun to read. as a health care professional and prescriber of medicines, all i can say is, everyone is different and reacts differently to medication. Modern day pharmacuticals have their place, but do not replace good old fasioned diet and exercise. As for pain control. There are some really good medications out there. Ever practioner needs to take into account the need for short term and long term pain relief needs of the patient. Daily stretching exercises are very benifical for back pain. And its very true that the patient needs to be very well informed and followed. I think its easy to see how some of you guys have been lost to follow up or not monitored well by your provider in regards to the medications you guys are taking. Nothing should keep you from calling your provider on the phone.
Time for me to get off my soap box.0 -
You must be kidding right?
I also love the commercials that say "call your doctor about BLAH-BLAH".
I don't know how it is where some of you live, but the odds of talking to your doctor around here,.........well, put it this way,.......I have better odds of winning the lottery, and I don't even play it.
A new patient waits for 3 to 6 months to get an appointment, and even existing patients, sometimes takes weeks to get in.
About as lucky as you can get, is to get ahold of one of the office staff, and let them relay your message to the doctor. If you are real lucky, you might get a call back from the office person, in a few days.0 -
I'm in washington state. We take phone calls from patients. Either i will return phone calls or my nurse will. New patients don't wait 3-6 months to get in either. Maybe you need to find a new doctor if he won't talk to you. 0 -
I am already on my third just for that reason.
I LIKE my current doctor, you just can't speak to any of them around here. Fortunately I have no major health issues, but my previous doctor, I left because I had pulled a tendon in my foot really bad,........could hardly walk, and they said they couldn't fit me in for 2 weeks.
I told them to go screw themselves, and I would be calling to have my records transferred.
At least my current doc, will fit you in, if it is something of consequence.
Way too many senior citizens around here,........they spend all week going to doctors. That is why it's the way it is.
BTW,.......nothing against seniors, and yes, I am grateful that I don't have the health problems that they are going to the doctor for every other day. Better say that before the flaming starts![:D]0 -
Yep, this is where I always come for medical advice. Yes'iree.

...All I can add is to repeat what's been said...People react differently to the same medications. Most people who take narcotics like morphine, codeine sulfate, oxycodone (oxycontin), hydrocodone, etc. will get drowsy and slow witted. I can't sit still and get more work done than a bee on amphetamines. I'm normally not a talker, but I'll talk your ear off. My older son has the same reactions.
...Once, in the OR, I was still talking after the third hit of sodium pentathol.
...Ultram has never done a thing for me. No relief and no side effects.0
