I got into a LOT of trouble over this one
My wife read me the riot act. She was really mad that I have been removing the screen from the front window so I can shoot starlings in our yard.
She really put her foot down about the screen; I am not supposed to remove it at all.
So to keep domestic peace and tranquility I will do as she asked.
Do you think the 22 caliber holes in the screen will let skeeters in? [:D]

You can always use duct tape to pacth the holes! [:D] 0 -

Before you put the screen back in, take the time to make a closeable shooting port in it that you can hinge open and closed at your lesure. 0 -
I tried the same thing in order to try to shoot one of the coyotes that habitually strolled past the bedroom window. You wouldn't think a few insects flying in would be such a big deal, would you? 0 -
....Fortunatly, she hates starlings as much as me. The screen facing the bird feeder stays open, with a Win. 1906 balanced across the top of the loveseat.

Observation; The screen does not hurt accuracy and may tend to open the hollow point a bit before Mr. starling gets hit with it.
She saw the empties on the floor but did not put 2 and 2 together; YET.0 -
Can't you put the screen on a pulley and just lift it whenever you need to?
It's not technically removed, it'll be moveable![:D]

Shot a groundhog from the deck slider last week. I had to wait a week for the groundhog to wander onto my side of the fence. For coyotes I crawl out onto the deck. The railing provides adequate camouflage.
I think the major hardware stores sell a roll-up screen that mounts on the side of the door.0 -

I know four and twenty blackbirds are required for a meal, but how many starlings are? You are going to eat them right?0 -
had a rabid coon on the railing of our old deck about 2 years ago, neighbors dog was raising heck and thought i was gonna have to shoo him off but when i peeked out the back door i saw a coon that appeared drunk staggering on the railing, needless to say, .22 magnum beats coon 11 times out of 10, but the wellhouse in the background had to suffer over penetration, i knew it was gonna happen but couldnt take the chance of letting that coon get away with kids that live in the house, luckily it was about 2 in the a.m. and everyone was sleeping. 0 -

I always welded them with a cable tie and a soldering iron0 -

...I used to have barn cats that would come to the sound of a shot, expecting a pigeon or sparrow, which were devoured. If I tossed them a starling, they'd sniff it and walk away. The only thing that I've seen eat one is a sharp shinned hawk that grabs a few off the feeder.
...When the mulberry trees are bearing, a flock of starlings can paint your car, house, and everything else purple in no time.0
