12 hours to deliver an email?
I just received a bid confirmation email from 9:26 p.m. last night.
I had made other bids since then and already received the emails about them.
Does anyone know what causes email delays like this?

...Don't know. I chat with a family member in Louisiana almost daily, and out of the blue, I'll get an email that he'd sent the night before. Weird. 0 -
Routing issues, temporary name resolution failures, being spam/virus scanned, etc. All "normal" and expected/allowed for in the SMTP specs. 0 -
It's homeland security checking your emails and forgetting to forward them in a timely manner. LOL. 0 -
Confirmation from a bid you placed on GB? I had 6 auctions end a week ago and it took 30 hours for me to receive the Auction ended notifications. GB could not give me an answer as to why the delay. [?][?] 0 -
Oh yeah, I've had situations where I've send an e-mail to MYSELF, and it has taken several hours to get it to me (I always send a copy of an important e-mail to myself so that I have proof of delivery in the event there was a question). 0 -
Very often, the server that captured the email may be taken off-line for routine maintenance while another server "fills in". You may find that you can't even log on to your own ISP's email when this happens because it's not the server with your stored password. Happens all the time with Earthlink for me and the mrs. Then, when the maintenance is over and the server is back on-line, the flood of late emails suddenly come through. With fleabay for example, the bid/won messages are occasionally delayed two or three days. 0 -
