Tried to buy an AR today.
Went to a small gun show today. I saw a Oly Arms AR for $650.00. I'm not quite sure which model it was, it had a fixed stock, carry handle, A2? rear sight(the one with two different blades), and 20" barrel with flash suppressor. The price tag said $650.00 OBO/trade. I offered the guy $600.00 and he said "Uh I need to keep it at $650.00". I said ok and left. WTH is wrong with people like that, put OBO on the tag and then not come down? Oh well, that's fine too.

Maybe they're hoping you'll offer more?[:p] 0 -
Should have told him that was the BO. 0 -
sometimes it is best to waite till the last minute of the show before buying, then make your best offer 0 -

+1 ... if it's still there.
More times than I care to count, I've waited, gone back and its gone.
Unless it was their "Plinker" model, $650 was a good price.0 -

Yeah, I waited as long as I could. It was an hour and a half before the show ended.0 -
There selling hotter than hot cakes so he knew what he could get, he just had to wait a little longer. [:(!][V][xx(][:(] 0 -
I would have jumped all over it for $650.
At a gunshow here today (Maryland) I saw Colt LE's for $1399, and Bushmasters for $975 and up. I'm going to get one soon, just hoping to wait for a better deal.0 -

Just go over to the auction side and pick an upper and a lower ... when you get both parts, put them together and you have exactly what you want at a significant savings!
That's how I ended up with these ...
This retro BOHICA M16-SA now has a correct second generation A1 stock on it , but I still need to get the A1 grip.
This sweet 16 is all DPMS except the float tube and stock which I upgraded after I got them.
Armalite match upper and lower, but purchased seperately.
Except for a pre 94 PWA, I don't have any factory built AR's, and I'm not positive about it. Other's I've pieced together from stripped receivers up.0 -
Should have paid the $650. I'm sure he paid about $550 for it himself. People that are in business HAVE TO MAKE MONEY to live. The $100 would have been his profit. 0 -
Sorry to hear about your problem, but it's not unsual. Buying guns has gotten so hard in that last few years that I've all but given up. I tried a couple of those big auction houses. Even had the high bid, but they didn't accept my bid because I "wasn't known" to them. So they sold the stuff to some buddy of theirs for a couple hundred less than I was willing to pay. It didn't say anything on the form about being "known." Went to a gun shop about 300 miles away that has auctions on a regular basis. Waited for hours for the stuff I wanted. Raised my hand to bid and was promptly ignored. Stood up and waived and was ignored. Screamed at the jerk who owned the place and was running the auction and was ignored. So I walked to the front of the place, threw my brief case up on the table and opened it to show that I had about 15K with me. Well, wouldn't you know that made all the difference. At that point, I wasn't interested. Just torn up my bidding number into small pieces, threw it in the air and walked out. Had a similar problem with some shops. Some time back, I went into a shop and found several items that interested me. Made an offer for the lot--about 8 guns--that was within 5% of the asking price. The guy thought about it for a minute and then said, "no." So I left. Well, about a month later, I get a call on my machine, saying that he'd accept my offer. Huh??? A month later. I hadn't even left my number, he found out who I was from some other guys and found me in the book. I've even had problems right here in river city. I've tried to buy a couple of things for the "buy it now" price only to be told "no, I'm going to let the auction run out and see what happens." So, to those of you who are willing to put up with this junk, I salute you! Best of luck -- Steve 0 -
That frustrates me as well. Especially when I usually know just about what they had to pay for it. In my opinion he did you a favor as I don't like Olympic AR's. Some work great but the odds are not nearly as good that they will as other brands. 0 -
On GB, I've always assumed that a won auction is a contract between buyer/seller. Isn't using the "buy-it-now" function the same thing? Can the buyer back out of the auction after a seller buys the item outright? (Ref: prior post). Joe 0 -

I have just the opposite problem.
Buying guns is so easy I have to watch that I doon't get carried
