Cartod, or anyone..stock ? refinishing..?

or any one else who knows...I used 1500 grit sand paper for the final wet sand w/watco danish oil..question is: if I can find grit finer than 1500 will it make more of a gloss than steel wool [oooo] or will the steel wool just burnish the gloss I've already achieved here, also will watco wax [natural finish] add to the gloss, more than wet sanding w/a finer grit than 1500..what is the finest grit you can purchase for use?.my gloss/oil finish is even overallthe stock, its just hard to photograph it and make it show up.[V]..thanks..Loko

    I have 2000 at the shop. But still use 0000 wool on finish up. Lotta hand wax afterwards. You do the checkering? Nice...

    Paul, no these are factory 870 wingmaster stocks,I just decided to try my hand at refinishing w/watco danish oil..2000 huh, I will have to search around, you use the 0000 after the 2000? and retain the gloss right?..thanks..

    Marc, my sister painted that for me..it gets all the ups drivers.[}:)].its concrete..A friend has a verticle concrete wall company and we use the left overs to pour different molds..[:D]

    Looks like you did a great job. I use the 0000 steel wool to put on the wax.

    Cartod has been know to work wonders with a wood burner.
    He could probably do a real cool mushroom or other fungi embossing on that stock.
    I heard he is cheap also.[:o)]

    I have the watco natural wax ordered locally,it will be here tues morn,next week..and I'm looking at a couple products that Ben, suggested on the experts forum from Brownells..million dollar finish on a 300.00 gun..[:o)]..good practice though..[:D]..Loko..[is there a fungus amongus..[:o)]..no fancy high dollar carving for me..[:o)]

    You are DONE with that stock except for polishing. Let it be for about a month in a warm dry place. That will allow the excess oil to oxidize. Then use a soft COTTON cloth to rub the haze off and brighten the finish underneath. A final coat of almost any furniture wax that doesn't contain citrus oil will finish the job.

    I was taught to use burlap for the final finish buff and have since achieved excellent results.
