Stepson finished the season 4th
[img][/img]Yesterday evening was the last race of the 2007 season. Although he has been racing karts since he was 6 years old, this was the first full season that Rcrx's 12 year old son has turned behind the wheel of a "real" racecar, in the novice 4-cylender class for 13-17 year olds, or those with eqivalent experience in racing of another genre.
It was a tough season for him. He had a car totalled from under him one week, and fell victim to some other mechanical problems a couple other weeks. The kid hung tough, and raced with his head.
He didn't finish in the top three for a feature all season, but was a consistent 5th, 6th, or 7th place finisher when he did finish. As of last week, it appeared that he was all but mathmatically out of the running for the Top 4 for the end of the season.
Last night, patience and brains paid off for him. He got his first 3rd place finish of the season, and ended up finishing 4th in the season points.
Mike is not the sort of man who wears his heart on his sleeve, but last night, he admits he got a little misty watching the boy accepting his trophy.
I'm proud of the kid, not so much for what he accomplished as much as for what he learned, and how he conducted himself behind the wheel and around the track. He showed a great deal more maturity and sportmanship than a lot of the adults. If he screwed up and got someone else in a jam, he would march himself to his opponent's pits, apologized, and asked if he could help to make things right.
Getting a little misty myself posting this.....
In any case, he's not a bad little "shoe," and like I said, I'm proud of him.
Will post end of season pics as soon as available.

Once again I must say that I am proud of what this kid has accomplished as well. You have every right to be proud of him. Most other racers could learn a lot from this kid. Give him a big thumbs up for me. Dave 0 -
sounds like a young man with tenacity, or as the late Jerry Clower said " that bulldog hang on forevernish " CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
That's great! He getting to do what a lot of us could never do, drive a real race car. Even if he never races again, he can cherish this season the rest of his life. On the other hand, it's something to build on for next year. Hope you get some good sponsors, cause your going to be eating a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the near future! Congratulations to him! 0 -
My congratulations to the young man, and to all that gave him support.
