Seeking opinions... git r done,91/30,PU sniper mod
I am very happy to have been the winner of git r dones Nagant giveaway and he shipped a beautiful Mosin Nagant 91/30 with accessories to me no strings attached.
I bought an original Russian Marked 91/30 sickle and hammer PU scope and mount and have been researching the nagant sniper set ups. The PU set up first saw service in 1942 and served the Russian army until the 70's.
I have wanted a PU sniper set up for a while now, So
Here is my question and I value your opinions.
Would you guys see a problem with mounting the original Russian 91/30 marked PU scope I have on the rifle I won?
1.The first reason I have a hesitation is that the rifle git r done shipped is a 1939 and the first year of sniper rifles came in 1942.
2.Second reason is because it was a rifle gifted to me and I would want git r dones blessing before I modified it.
3.Third is that I know I am making a counterfiet PU set up, but I am not trying to pass it off as an original.
4. Fourth is that I would need to cut/notch clearence in the stock then drill and tap the receiver.
I want a PU set up and to acquire an original it would cost several hundered dollars and maybe even a thousand.
I plan on keeping this rifle as long as I own rifles. This one is a keeper.
So what are your opinions on my plan. Here are a few pics of the scope set in place.

To answer your questions, in order:
No, I see no problem with doing it.
1) If it adds to your shooting pleasure, go for it--especially since you're gonna keep it.
2) Can't help you with this one; it's between you and Git-r-Done.
3) If, should you ever decide to part with it, be forthright that you had it modified.
4) IMHO, the only reason NOT to do it, depending on cost, and what you want to put into the rifle.
My buddy has one of the 91/30 "snipers" from Inter-Ordinance; I can tell you, honestly, that they are a hoot to shoot. His can take easy headshots (hit a cantelope) out to 300 yards.0 -

I thought that too but then I also thought they would choose to put the scopes on the newest and possibly rifles that were at the high end of the tolerances for their distance snipers. I don't know. I did read that the PU sniper rifle was the most produced military Sniper rifle of all sniper rifles. The armorers may have installed scopes on some older specimens if they were prroven to be a cut above other rifles in accuracy. That I don't know either, but it is possible I guess.0
