Seeking Cartridge Identity Help From Xperts
I made a casting of a European rifle chamber and would like help identifying. Any info will be helpful in solving the mystery.
The picture might be self explanatory but here are the dimensions;
Rim is .48 diameter
base is .415 diameter
neck is .375 diameter
Length is 2.825? I am guessing because it headspaces off the rim and no shoulder to this cartridge. It may be shorter though.
Bore grooves are .358
Bore Lands are .340

9.3x72R? 0 -
I believe a 9.3x72 would use .365 bullet which would be to big for this bore.
The grooves are .358 on this bore.0 -
looks like .35 Whelen. but I think those have a shoulder and a rim? eh...

The .35 Whelen has a rebated rim and a shoulder.
This chamber I cast is a straight taper similar to the European 9.3x72 but the measurments are wrong to be that.0 -

narrowest list I can get, so out of 2 pages of results I sorted by bullet dia. to exclude the most obvious that's-not-it's.
you might want to try it yourself and tweak the input. note: for "case type", put "exactly" B, which means rimmed straightwall case.0 -

The dimensions I posted are the exact actual chamber size.
The cartridge would then need to be slightly smaller for feeding.0 -

ok, then the way I figure it, the actual cartridge would have less than (<) the dimensions of the chamber, but the bullet will be more than .340.
if I input your exact dimensions,
cartridge: (leave blank)
caset type: "exactly" B
bullet dia.: > .340
case length: > 1.5 (to weed out handgun cartridges)
rim dia.: < .48
neck dia.: < .375
shoulder dia.: (leave blank)
base dia.: > .415

I get no results. if I input slightly wider dimensions (larger chamber) to allow for error,

I get 14 results, and I know the bullet dia. won't be more than .358, but again, allow for measurement error. sort by the bullet dia. column. I still don't see a better match than the .360 Nitro, but the base diameter is too big.

I'd say either one of your measurements is off, or they don't have this cartridge in the 600+ they have in their database.0 -
The .360 nitro is 2 and 1/4 inches long.

After looking at a few schematics and dimenshions it might be the 9.3x72
I haven't had much sleep in the last 2 days so I am going to look at it tomorrow a little closer.
